Responsibilities

These positions are being filled under the Temporary Direct-Hire Authority (DHA) for Childcare Services Providers for Department Child Development Centers (CDCs) authorized under Section 559 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018. Positions covered under this DHA are qualified childcare services providers, which is defined as individuals who directly provide childcare services for dependent children of members of the Armed Forces and civilian employees of the DoD in CDCs on Department Installations, in the 1701 and 1702 Occupational Series at GS-2 through GS-11 (or equivalent pay grades), in the competitive service. Appointments under this authority may not be made after 30 September 2021 unless extended by future legislation.

Duties Include:

  • Provides developmentally appropriate care and education for children.

  • Creates pleasant, inviting atmosphere for children and encourages parent involvement.

  • Provides guidance to lower level caregivers assigned to designated classroom.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

GS-05:

I have four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.

OR

I have three years of general experience which is equivalent to at least a GS-04.

GS-07:

I have successfully completed one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position

OR

I have a bachelor's degree in education or a subject area related to the position and am claiming Superior Academic Achievement.

OR

I have one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

GS-08:

I have two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

I have one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)
1.Knowledge of child development regulations, procedures, processes and practices.
2.Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation regulations and procedures for working with young children.
3.Ability to develop creative and innovative activity plans and special program plans and manage a classroom of young children.
4.Ability to carry out plans and activities to enhance the development of children and adjust work operations due to changes in program or plans.
5.Skills in communicating effectively both orally and in writing using tact and courtesy.
6.Skill to lead others in work assignments.
