What you will do as a Child Care Teacher

  • Feel a sense of accomplishment as you hear the laughter and experience the wonder of children participating in activities you planned

  • Observe children's interests and work with co-workers to develop creative ideas for engaging curriculum

  • Record and share children's triumphs and progress with parents, relating that continued safety and attention to their individual basic care needs is a top priority

  • Communicate with parents on a daily basis, sharing their children's latest adventures and achievements through a variety of avenues, including mobile apps and personal discussions

Job Requirements

What we are looking for

  • Minimum age of 18

  • Hold a High School Diploma/GED

  • Previous experience working with young children

  • Meet state educational licensing and additional center/school requirements

  • A passion for child care and making a difference in the lives of young children

We do give preference to child care teachers with the following:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • CDA or Associate's degree in Early Childhood education or related field

  • Have 12 months of professional teaching experience in a classroom

VIEW JOBS 2/6/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-05-07T00:00 The Sioux Falls Family YMCA is currently looking to hire a part-time Child Development Center Assistant at the YMCA's Child Development Center. The center is located at 2512 South Carolyn Avenue in Sioux Falls. The assistant will work up to 27 hours per week Monday through Friday. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Child Development Director, the Child Development Center Assistant will provide direction for the classroom and helps implement curriculum which promotes social, cultural, educational, physical and emotional growth. This position will also provide a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Basic Qualifications: * Must meet educational and experience qualifications established by the Department of Social Services for licensing requirements. * Must be at least 16 years old. * Must obtain, and keep current, certification in CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention within 30 days of hire. * Must be able to physically participate in children's activities and evacuation drills, move about the classroom and playground, take neighborhood walks, and lift children. * Must be able to drive and transport children in center vehicles. Preferred Qualifications: * At least 6 months experience working with children in an educational environment. * Associates degree in relevant field. * Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities and curriculum. * Previous experience working with diverse populations; ability to develop positive and authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds. * Knowledge of DSS program standards. Duties and Responsibilities: * Maintains DSS program standards. * Implements daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum. * Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities; ensures care and safety of children. * Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. * Maintains classroom and equipment, and adheres to the scheduled cleaning. * Adheres to posted schedule, curriculum and menus according to regulation. * Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, staff training, and YMCA special events. * Additional duties as required and assigned by a supervisor to support the overall mission of the YMCA and to ensure the success of the Child Development Center.
