This announcement will be used to fill vacancies at any of the Child Development Centers at Fort Lee, VA.
Responsibilities

The duties of a Child and Youth Program Assistant include but not limited to the following:
Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 5 years of age.
Assists in providing and leading planned activities for program participants
Helps establish a program environment that promotes positive interactions with other children and adults
Interacts with children using approved child guidance and development techniques as provided by supervisors
Supervises children during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities and on field trips, outings and special events

Incumbent is legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect
Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment (Projected appointment date: 10/31/2018)
Must be able to possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, walk, bend, stoop and stand on a routine basis.
Individuals who have been trained will be required to administer routine and rescue medications prescribed by a physician to children, perform CPR and first aid, and aid in providing a reasonable accommodation to children with a special need.

Qualifications

Qualifications for the Child and Youth Program Assistant (Entry Level 2) position are:
Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate and
Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing Qualifications for the Child and Youth Program Assistant (Skill Level 3) position are:
meet requirements for Entry Level and
3 months of experience working in a group program with children and Army or other military service Entry Level Training evidenced by service-issued Certificate of Completion or
meet requirements for Entry Level and
6 months of experience working in a group program with children plus 9 semester hours of college credit with course content directly related to the age group to which assigned: Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education or directly-related behavioral or cultural science (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology, sociology of the family, gender identity, parenting. General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying). One year vocational certificate in child care or equivalent to other child programs meets the intent of the education requirement Qualifications for the Child and Youth Program Assistant (Target Level 4) position are:
meet requirements for Entry Level and
Possess 18 months of experience working in a group program with children plus Army or other military service Foundation Level Training as evidenced by service-issued Certificate of Completion OR
meet requirements for Entry Level and
Possess 18 months of experience working in a group program with children or youth, plus an associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of college credit which included a major course of study (24 semester hours) with course content directly related to the age group to which assigned: Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education or directly-related behavioral or cultural science (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology, sociology of the family, gender identity, parenting. General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying). One year vocational certificate in child care or equivalent to other child programs meets the intent of the education requirement OR one of the following:
A bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours which included a major course of study (24 semester hours) with course content directly related to the age group to which assigned: Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education or directly-related behavioral or cultural science (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology, sociology of the family, gender identity, parenting. General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying). One year vocational certificate in child care or equivalent to other child programs meets the intent of the education requirement or
Possess and maintain one of the following directly related to the age group of the position to which assigned: Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential
