The LCSW or LICSW will assess and determine clinical service authorization for Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Continuing Care Services in accordance with DMH criteria and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Sited at and functions as a member of the Area Office.
Respond to inquiries from the public and from providers regarding DMH service authorization criteria and processes.
Provide information and resource information to families and service providers.
Provide training to other state agencies, providers and public about DMH criteria and processes and DMH services.
Provide clinical assessment and determination for services as specified in DMH regulations and guidelines.
Pursue proper release of information authorizations from applicant/LEA in order to seek and obtain sufficient documentation.
Conduct face to face clinical assessment of applicant at the client's residence (or other agreed upon setting) at agreed upon time.
Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments of applicants' history and current presenting issues as well as dynamic formulation of diagnostic impressions and clinical service authorization determination. Arrange independent consultations as needed.
Administer CANS or other functional assessment tool.
Consult with C/A psychiatrist regarding applications and redeterminations for children under the age of six, children with complex medical needs or requiring special medical care, and children with complex clinical presentations.
Assess the need for DMH-funded short-term services and refer to, while the application is being processed.
Conduct redeterminations as directed.
Provide assessment to determine need for DMH continuing care services. Present screening assessments to Area Medical Director (or designee) and conduct all collateral contact regarding referral, outcome and waitlist.
Provide assessment to determine other resources than can be utilized such as another agency or entity, such as DCF, DDS, LEA or Medicaid (CBHI).
Communicate and negotiate with staff external to DMH such as hospital doctors and administrators, school guidance counselors, etc.
Collaborate with site staff and provide clinical consultation to ensure a smooth transition for the new child and family.
Maintain thorough and effective communication with Site Directors or designee and child/adolescent supervisors as needed to assure continuity of care and availability of services.
Monitor appeals including drafting appeal template letter with a list of all reviewed documents, organizing a face to face meeting with Area Medical Director or designee, attending as requested, and documenting all actions.
Enter all biopsychosocial assessments, progress notes, letters sent into MHIS according to business rules guidelines within specified timelines per DMH regulations.
Monitor, update and maintain all pertinent computer systems on a daily basis.
Attend trainings, seminars, conferences and continuing education courses to maintain and update current knowledge of the mental health field.
Participate in CSAS team clinical discussions, consultations and other clinical meetings as needed.

The provision of the Department of Mental Health, Central Mass Area, services and supports occurs within a large geographic expanse of 97 communities ranging from urban to rural settings within the counties of Hampden, Middlesex, Norfolk and Worcester. Through an integrated network comprised of the Area Office in Worcester, five Site Offices (Canton, North County, South County, Westborough and Worcester), provider partners - inpatient and community, as well as traditional and consumer operated services, we strive to offer a full spectrum of recovery oriented, person-centered, trauma informed services within our communities and the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH). The Central Mass Area provides services to approximately 4,000 individuals annually, including children and adolescents, through a network of contracted community services and DMH Case Management.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as a clinical social worker after earning a Master's degree in social work.
A Doctorate in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, or human services may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.
One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
A Master's or higher degree in social work is required.
Licensure as a Licensed Certified Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work is required.
Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.
