Chief/Principal Civil Engineer

Job Description: As a leader in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, our company seeks an accomplished Chief/Principal Engineer with extensive experience in civil and structural engineering.

This pivotal role demands a minimum of 15-20 years of professional engineering experience, primarily focused on QA/QC, stamping of engineering documents, and mentorship. The candidate must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York State, with additional licenses in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Key Responsibilities:

Quality Control and Assurance: Establish and oversee a comprehensive quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) system that meets both internal standards and regulatory compliance requirements. Regularly review QA/QC processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Ensure all engineering outputs comply with industry standards, client specifications, and safety regulations. Engineering Design and Documentation: Review, approve, and stamp engineering designs and documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, and professional integrity.

Lead the development of design methodologies and standard operating procedures for various engineering projects. Collaborate with project managers and design teams to resolve complex design challenges and ensure optimal integration of engineering principles. Leadership and Team Development:

Fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, facilitating professional development through training sessions, one-on-one coaching, and providing growth opportunities within projects. Evaluate and report to the Director of Engineering about team performance regularly and provide feedback and strategies for improvement.

Strategic Planning and Execution: Collaborate in developing strategic plans for the engineering department that align with the company’s long-term goals. Monitor the execution of engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Drive the adoption of new technologies and innovative practices in the engineering workflow to maintain competitive advantage. Regulatory Compliance and Industry Relations: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and standards, ensuring all engineering practices comply with necessary legal and ethical guidelines.

Represent the company in professional groups and forums, enhancing the company’s profile and staying informed of industry developments. Liaise with regulatory bodies and external consultants to ensure all projects achieve legal compliance and receive necessary certifications. Collaboration and Communication:

Foster a collaborative work environment across departments to ensure project requirements are clearly understood and met. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including project teams, clients, and external partners, to ensure all parties are aligned and informed. Prepare and present detailed reports on project progress, challenges, and outcomes to senior management and relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master’s degree in Engineering is highly preferred. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York State is mandatory; additional PE licenses in PA, NJ, and CT are essential. At least 15-20 years of experience in a senior engineering role within the civil and structural engineering fields.

Demonstrate ability to perform engineering tasks within the Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical Engineering Specialties Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large-scale engineering projects and initiatives. In-depth knowledge of industry regulations, building codes, and safety standards. Proven mentorship skills with an ability to educate and enhance team capabilities.
