Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the CTO plays a critical role in defining the human capital agenda to support the company strategy. The Chief Talent Officer will be responsible for the strategy and management of organizational development & change management, talent acquisition, talent and performance management, learning and development, workforce analytics and succession planning.
This role will deliver on key initiatives including: 1) ensuring AXA Equitable Life has the talent and programs in place to operate as a stand-alone public company and to excel in it's strategic objectives; 2) leading workforce and workplace transformation efforts ; 3) collaborating with the Chief Diversity Officer, and HR Business partners in developing and executing on the company's five-year People strategy.
Responsibilities with key areas of focus:
Organizational Development and Change Management
Establishing him or herself as a trusted advisor to the executive team as it relates to organizational design, process and people related decisions for the business in a concrete manner.
Establishing and maintaining strong relationships to identify and respond to business needs; providing feedback to the executive team as "eyes and ears" on the ground.
Effectively translating business priorities into talent initiatives and plans and execution using an analytical and data-driven approach.
Advising on people strategies to support an efficient, effective and high performance organization.
Being a highly visible, positive and pro-active change leader.
Attracting, developing and retaining top talent across the organization, to further enhance and evolve a performance-based culture needed today and in the future.
Partnering with business leaders to anticipate staffing and capability requirements that develop high performing teams.
Collaborating with Executive Management to recruit senior executives with public-company experience to meet the challenges of our new structure
Delivering on workforce and workplace transformation plan to relocate/recruit 550 roles from Metro NY to Charlotte, NC
Implementing an executive integration and onboarding process to ensure success (with a focus on new executives)
Build and facilitate a relevant succession planning program for the organization with a focus on enhancing succession planning at the Executive Management level:
the development of Enterprise Talents who can excel in critical roles
the development of executives with subject matter expertise, preparing them for their next role
identifying key outside talents and a continuous program of building relationships with those executives
Deliver development/sponsorship programs for diverse segments to build pipeline at the Director and Managing Director level
Establish a new leadership framework to serve as the foundation for all HR practices and programs including performance management and the learning curriculum
Develop skill assessment capabilities for AXA Equitable Life and develop programs to address gaps identified
Learning and Development
Building and implementing training, development and mentorship programs to retain, inspire and develop leaders at all levels.
Design a leadership development curriculum to raise the capability of the 50+ members of Executive Management
Continue efforts to up-skill company managers with a strong focus on leading teams through change, attracting/hiring diverse talents with potential, and delivering needs-based feedback
Focus on virtual learning - taking learning to where the learners are and making it easy for people to want to learn by themselves
Build data and analytics capability with a focus on providing business leaders with insights and recommendations when making people and organizational decisions
Develop robust workforce plans to align workforce transformation efforts with forward-looking talent needs and optimize labor alternatives, e.g., build/buy/borrow/bot
Lead internal operating model review of HR data and analytics activities to identify organization efficiencies
The Chief Talent Officer leads an organization of 20 HR professionals, with five direct reports, and manages a 7.7MM budget.
Key partners in Human Resources include: HR Business Partners, Chief Diversity Officer; Head of Compensation and Benefits; Head of HR Strategy and; Head of HR Shared Services.
The CTO collaborates extensively with executive management on their people and organization challenges and is deliberate in spending her/his time in identifying, meeting and developing talent across business segments and locations.
The role will be based in Charlotte, NC. The candidate must be willing to travel every other week for 2-3 days to NYC corporate headquarters
Business and Strategic Acumen
Smart, direct, high-energy executive, focused on enabling strategic decision making and resource allocation that will streamline and optimize the company's operations.
Ability to "think strategically, act tactically" and operate effectively on both levels.
An insurance background is not required, but an understanding of financial services is beneficial. A passion for, and track-record with the talent agenda is more important than traditional HR business partner experience and candidates with both generalist and talent experience will be priority.
Experience with Building and Managing High Performance Teams
Demonstrated ability to identify and attract talent and to assess strengths, weaknesses and fit of potential new hires for various roles across the business.
Skilled in building systems to assess performance and incentivize team members, and working with business leaders to develop a culture of real-time feedback.
Aptitude for identifying high potential and low performing team members and working with the executive team to develop opportunities and next steps for each.
Willingness to objectively make difficult talent-related decisions.
