Position Overview

The Senior Vice President (Cable) Learning (SVPL) leads "Comcast University" -- the global learning institute for all of Comcast Cable, Comcast Headquarters, and Comcast Corporate and includes integrity training for the Comcast Enterprise. The SVPL provides executive leadership to a team of approximately 500 learning and development (L&D) professionals, manages a $75M budget and leads in a geography that spans the US and includes support to third-party partners. The role provides thought leadership and practical L&D solutions, policies and practices that enable the continued growth and success of Comcast and continued improvement to the customer experience for its residential and commercial customers.

The SVPL provides executive leadership and direction in the development and delivery of strategies and solutions that drive performance, and that evolve, shape, and sometimes preserve the culture of the organization. This role defines the strategic direction, development, execution and evaluation of all aspects of functional, broad-based, and high potential learning and development efforts with seamless business alignment with functional and business unit senior executives, HR partners, and other key stakeholders across the organization. This role identifies and works with champions of learning across the organization to create a culture of learning for continuous improvement in our people, our work, and our processes. The leader exhibits strong organizational behavior competency applied to large scale change management on training initiatives, with evidence of learning and business impact, while strategically and tactically overseeing and instituting the latest L&D technologies and in alignment with applicable HR and business processes and systems.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Plans, launches, monitors and acts on long-range learning initiatives that are aligned with and impact Comcast's strategic goals

  • Advises senior leadership regarding initiatives that will close performance gaps, promote maximum staff effectiveness, accelerate strategic change, and create a positive impact on the customer experience

  • Positions Comcast University as a learning organization that uses and establishes industry best practices and reflects thought leadership

  • Forges relationships with key learning partners, including, but not limited to: colleges, L&D industry organizations, and learning solution providers (particularly new and innovative start-ups)

  • Ensures the learning management system and HRIS are maximized in serving learners, the business, and the overall HR digital efforts

  • Advises senior leadership regarding initiatives in leadership to ensure strong bench strength and a full pipeline of talent working in concert with the SVP of Talent Management

  • Explores and implements programs that impact learners at various stages of the learning cycle for example, introduction of new concepts, on-the-job experience and post learning event performance support

  • Understands the demographics of the organization and acts on those demographics to ensure delivery of learning that meets a variety of needs and styles and with innovative formats and solutions

  • Communicates the impact of the L&D function with senior leaders and manages a bi-annual National Executive Learning Council

  • Fosters an environment of learning and continuous improvement through data-driven analysis, communication, advocacy, expertise, and business impact building a learning culture

  • Ensures the day-to-day and long-term efforts of Comcast's integrated L&D, talent acceleration, and organizational readiness efforts are focused on driving the desired business outcomes of the organization

  • Drives an impactful learning and development strategy and learning experience that helps to attract, develop, and retain the best talent in the industry, and that aligns with the employee and Company brand, showing the contribution to total rewards for the workforce

  • Builds, develops, and leads a team of highly skilled learning and organizational readiness professionals to support the overall culture, business, and people strategies of Comcast

  • Ensures the L&D team achieves the appropriate mix of transactional and consultative work, operates with discipline and transparency, keeps pace with advancements in the field, and continually strengthens its thought leadership capabilities

  • Ensures that learning and organizational readiness programs and interventions are business-focused, cost-optimized, and sustainable over the long-term

  • Ensures successful implementation of all learning and organizational readiness efforts, developing and using analytics to determine business impact

Professional/Personal Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred (educational leadership, organizational development/behavior, learning and development, business administration, human resources, or similar field of specialization preferred)

  • At least ten years of deep experience in a business focused role, with at least five years of direct involvement in learning and development and/or organizational development/behavior

  • Ability to lead and manage people and teams effectively building a highly effective and widely dispersed team

  • Experience leading a large team (300 or more)

  • Demonstrated effective partnering, collaborating, and consulting skills to an internal and external client base of the most senior level executives

  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation, negotiation, planning, organization, and facilitation skills at the executive level

  • Ability to travel as needed (varies from 20-40%)
