THE OPPORTUNITY

You are a seasoned architect who helps create the technological vision, drives technology strategy and has strong leadership, technical and business acumen. You bring a breadth of experience bringing highly scalable enterprise SaaS applications to market. You will provide the overall technical leadership for the development of the product platform. You are a hands-on leader that will foster and drive collaboration with peer architects, engineering stakeholders, product managers, UX leads and data scientists on the definition and delivery of our highly scalable and secure SaaS solutions. You will be expected to initiate conversations, ask hard questions, and bring strategic decisions to the leadership team to debate and decide. You will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, driving the application design and overseeing its implementation. Serve as the Architect for products that involve multiple business owners, concurrent work streams, and geographically distributed Agile teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Defining and driving software architecture and enterprise capabilities
  • Determining overall architectural principles, frameworks and standards
  • Creating a well thought out architecture strategy and manage the alignment to the product roadmaps
  • Evaluating vendors and technology
  • Building proof-of-concepts
  • Software development
  • Providing architectural approval for big ticket projects
  • Developing reference architectures
  • Performing Architecture and Code Reviews
  • Providing advice on coding practices
  • Keeping abreast of new technologies that might be beneficial to the organization
  • Partnering with business stakeholders and technology leaders to translate program requirements into technical solutions and system design
  • Driving research, case studies and prototypes on leading edge technologies and how they can be leveraged
  • Providing hands-on development where appropriate
  • Designing proof-of-concept pilots and working closely with technical leads to drive successful POC implementations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 + years of architect or tech lead experience
  • Deep experience with some, if not all, of the following: Jira, GitLab, Splunk, Airflow, mlflow, Python, AWS, Postgres, Kakfa, AWS Kinesis, AWS MSK, Kubernetes, NiFi, StreamSets, Snowflake, SQL.
  • Must have a track record of building and deploying highly available, large scale, high performing multi-tenant SaaS applications
  • Must have experience delivering complex driven architectures
  • Strong knowledge of architectural styles and design patterns.

This position is responsible for the effective conduct of NGFA, guides and participates in Board directives and policy, and is charged with hiring and managing staff to accomplish Board directives. The President will serve as the liaison for the sixty-five (65) member NGFA Board of Directors and eighteen (18) member Executive Committee.  This position requires frequent overnight travel.<br />  <br /> <strong>Major Duties and Responsibilities:</strong> <ul> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Executes the policies and directives of the sixty-five (65) member NGFA Board of Directors and eighteen (18) member Executive Committee.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Maintains ongoing communications with Board and Executive Committee.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Plans, coordinates, and implements NGFA’s programs, services, and budget.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Manages, and provides overall direction to an executive staff of thirteen (13) professionals. </li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Recruits and hires staff and support personnel based upon NGFA needs; conducts and maintains employee salary administration, with responsibility for evaluation, promotion, and termination</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Assigns duties and projects to staff. </li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Provides motivation and a constructive, positive, collaborative staff work culture.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Chairs weekly staff meeting.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Consults with NGFA staff director of business operations and treasurer, reviews, and updates, as needed, NGFA’s staff benefit programs.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Establishes office operation policies, as wells as reviews and updates the Employee Handbook. </li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Works with the NGFA Chairman and executive staff to recommend appointments to NGFA’s seventeen (17) policy and subject matter committees.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Consults with NGFA Chairman, committee chairs and pertinent executive staff liaisons on filling Board and committee vacancies as they occur during the year.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Serves as corporate secretary of the NGFA Foundation, the Association’s research and education arm. </li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Proposes projects, develops meeting agendas, and writes meeting minutes.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Reviews and approves, with in-house general counsel, all minutes of NGFA Board and committee meetings.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Reviews and approves all convention, conference, and major meeting locations, in consultation with the NGFA staff vice president for meetings and marketing.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Represents NGFA before Congress and federal government agencies on high-priority public policy issues (e.g., agricultural and trade policy, rail transportation, etc.).</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Interacts with chief executive staff officers of NGFA’s thirty-three (33) state and regional affiliated associations. </li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Interacts with the chief executive staff officer and staff members of the North American Export Grain Association (NAEGA), which is co-located and has a joint operations and services agreement and strategic alliance with NGFA.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Interacts with the chief executive staff officer of the Pet Food Institute, with which NGFA has a strategic alliance.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Interacts frequently and on an as-needed basis with chief executive staff officers and leadership of a wide range of national agricultural producer, commodity group, and agribusiness associations.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Serves as NGFA’s principal staff liaison to private and public sector organizations.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Serves as backup staff liaison in various additional committee support functions, if needed.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Reviews content of all NGFA Newsletters, media releases, NGFA and Foundation annual reports, and most testimony and official statements to government agencies prior to publication or filing. </li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Serves as NGFA’s principal staff spokesperson to media (other executive staff conduct media interviews on topics within their specific areas of expertise).</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Presents speeches at annual conventions of Affiliated State/Regional Associations and outside organizations.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Becomes familiar with past governmental actions and NGFA policy positions to inform and guide NGFA committees and staff in public policy development and association activities.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Performs other duties as assigned.</li> </ul> <strong>Skills and Experience Required:</strong> <ul> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a business or agriculture-related field.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Work experience to include a minimum of ten (10) years or equivalence in the industry or management experience.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Experience with advocacy, lobbying, or legislative procedures is preferred.</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Valid driver’s license.</li> <li style="padding: 0;
