This role is focused on the evolution and transformation of ambulatory practice for Rutgers Health faculty practice at University Hospital. The Rutgers Chief Physician Executive shall be expected to devote eighty percent (80%) of his or her time each month to the operations and performance management of faculty-based ambulatory clinical care delivery. This portion of the position shall encompass a dyad partnership with the VP of Ambulatory Operations which shall include significant daily communication between both parties. The remaining twenty percent (20%) of his or her time shall be devoted to clinical delivery in a Rutgers office-based practice.
The Chief Physician Executive will evolve the delivery of ambulatory care services in partnership with the hospital executive with the following strategic aims:
Build a leading ambulatory practice
Develop and deploy best practices and standards in clinical and operational care delivery across traditionally siloed clinical departments
Create relationships with department chairs and faculty members such that change management is effective
Build centralized services to support ambulatory practice (e.g., call center)
Inform the clinical supply of physicians so faculty recruiting can be addressed
Foster care coordination and develop programs for effective transition from inpatient to ambulatory
Improve the overall patient experience
Create a high-functioning dyad ambulatory leadership structure between NJMS and UH
TACTICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the reporting structure of Ambulatory Clinic staff to ensure accountability of all Ambulatory Clinic practices, in cooperation with the VP of Ambulatory Operations;
Ensure physician coverage for all Ambulatory Clinic services;
Develop and implement a standard support staff model for the ambulatory practice, in conjunction with the VP of Ambulatory Operations
Ensure Rutgers Physicians complete medical records correctly and in timely manner;
Work with the Chief Medical Officer to develop and implement a quality improvement program.
In conjunction with the VP of Ambulatory Operations, ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of Ambulatory Clinic operations;
Co-Manage, along with the VP of Ambulatory Operations, the operating and capital budgets of the Ambulatory Clinics;
Assist the Hospital and its medical staff with the medical staff appointment and reappointment credentials process for Rutgers Physicians provision services at the Ambulatory Clinics;
Supervise Rutgers Physicians providing services at the Ambulatory Clinics, subject to the ultimate oversight by the Hospital Executive, the JMC and the Governing Body;
Ensure all clinical research projects undertaken at the Ambulatory Clinics have been reviewed and approved by the appropriate Institutional Review Board, as applicable, and are undertaken in a clinically appropriate manner;
Work with the Hospital Executive to continuously improve processes and care at the Ambulatory Clinics, including the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives;
Support the Parties mutual goal of employing a diverse workforce at the Ambulatory Clinics;
Act as role model for service excellence;
Understand and adhere to the compliance standards and policies of both Rutgers and the Hospital;
Keep abreast of, and oversee compliance with, state and federal regulations applicable to the operation of the Ambulatory Clinics; and
Ensure all clinical staff providing services at the Ambulatory Clinics staff are trained and evaluated no less often than annually.
PATIENT RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES
Interfaces with the UH and NJMS patient relations programs and services and responds to general patient related quests and complaints as they related to the RH at UH ambulatory practice.
Works with the VP of Ambulatory Services to develop, implement, and monitor activities around the improvement of the patient experience.
GENERAL and CORPORATE COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Understands and adheres to Rutgers compliance standards as they appear in RBHSs Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
