The Department of State Hospitals

  • Napa has two openings for the Chief Physician and Surgeon positions. Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Primary Care Services, the Chief Physician and Surgeon will provide supervision to the Primary Care Physicians (Physicians and Surgeons) and Nurse Practitioners, and be available as a consultant to medical providers and key leadership personnel. The Chief Physician and Surgeon should have medical leadership experience. The Chief P&S will assist with hiring and evaluation of Primary Care Providers, and is expected to counsel them regarding professional expectations. The Chief P&S will attend required meetings, and help with direct patient care when needed. Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Practice is required, by the Medical Board of California or the California Board of Osteopathic Examiners.

Founded in 1875, Napa State Hospital is the only state hospital in Northern California for persons struggling with severe mental illness. Classified as a low to moderate security facility, the hospital has a bed capacity to treat up to 1,362 patients on an attractive campus with treatment units located on 138 acres.
