Chief People Officer and Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Culture

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Summary:

The Chief People Officer (CPO) is responsible for leading the human resources and culture-building functions of Colorado Mesa University. The CPO plays a critical role in creating a values-based organizational culture that aligns with the university's mission, vision, and strategic plan. Ultimately culture is inextricably intertwined with people and the way in which an organization supports effective leadership development, employee recruitment, performance management, talent development, employee engagement, and effective payroll and human resources operations-all functions for which the Chief People Officer is accountable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive people operations strategy aligned with university values and strategic plan. Provide strategic guidance to university leadership on people matters, including talent acquisition, talent development, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness.

2.Talent Acquisition and Management: Oversee the recruitment and selection process for faculty and staff positions.

Develop effective strategies for attracting and retaining top talent in academic and non-academic roles. Ensure compliance with university policies, employment laws, and regulations related to recruitment and selection.

3.Employee Engagement and Culture: Foster a values-based organizational culture that promotes employee satisfaction, well-being, and engagement. Develop and implement programs and initiatives to enhance employee morale and job satisfaction.

4.Compensation and Benefits: Develop competitive compensation and benefits programs for faculty and staff.

Ensure the university's rewards structure supports talent attraction, retention, and motivation. Stay updated on compensation trends and provide recommendations to senior leadership.

5.Learning and Development: Identify training needs and gaps. Develop and implement programs to enhance employee skills, knowledge, and career growth opportunities.

6.Performance Management: Implement effective performance management systems and processes to align individual and team goals with the university's strategic plan objectives. Identify areas for improvement and provide guidance to leaders and managers on performance evaluation, feedback, and recognition programs.

7.Employee Relations: Oversee employee relations activities, including conflict resolution, grievance procedures, and disciplinary actions. Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.

8.HR Policies and Compliance: Oversee the development and management of HR policies, procedures, and guidelines consistent with legal requirements, university policies, and industry best practices. Stay updated on changes in employment laws and regulations affecting the university and advise university leadership accordingly.

9.HR Operations and Technology: Oversee HR operations including payroll, benefits administration, and data management. Leverage technology and automation to streamline HR processes, enhance data analytics capabilities, and improve HR service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Master's degree in human resources, business, or a related field.

  • Experience in leadership roles within higher education or a related field.

  • Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices in higher education.

  • Demonstrated experience in talent acquisition, talent management, and employee engagement.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive change in a complex organizational environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Extensive knowledge of CMU culture.

  • Experience in organizational development, change management, and strategic planning.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.

Salary: $125,000.00 - 145,000.00. Commensurate with education and experience.
