Manages the Waynesboro Fire Department.
Exercises complete on-scene command and control, either directly or through designees, coordinating and directing all fire service personnel.
Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of modern firefighting techniques to take action as required to ensure fire suppression.
Ensures the efficient use of personnel and equipment in carrying out fire suppression activities.
Responsible for fire and other emergency preplanning for the Department and Borough, and coordinates preplanning efforts with other departments and officials.
Coordinates the investigation of fire origins and provides investigative reports as required.
Exercises complete on-scene command and control, either directly or through officers.
The Fire Chief is responsible for the preparation and presentation of the fire department of annual budget.
Ensures the efficient purchase of supplies and equipment and authorizes expenditures of the department allocated funds. Develops and implements standard operating procedures and policies for the Department.
Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees, managers, and representatives from other departments and organizations. Shares knowledge with staff for mutual and departmental benefit.
Assigns work and ensures it is effectively carried out.
Trains, monitors and assesses the performance of other individuals or the organization to make improvements or to take corrective disciplinary action as appropriate.
Reports disciplinary problems to the appropriate body as appropriate.
Makes recommendations on personnel from the Civil Service Certified List in conjunction with the Borough Manager for approval by Town Council.
Hears employee grievances and complaints and resolves problems to the greatest extent possible.
Attends Borough Council meetings, other meetings, and conferences or trainings as required by the Borough Manager and/or Borough Council.
Maintains accurate records of all business transacted by the Department.
Follows up on, investigates, and addresses citizen complaints as required.
Works with law enforcement, insurance companies, local, state and/or federal agencies as required in the investigation of fire sites and matters.
Seeks out alternative funding sources such as grants at the local, state and federal level; writes grants to secure additional funding for department operations and improvements.
The Fire Chief may be required to work extended hours and is subject to call-in on a 24-hour basis.
Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Borough Manager and/or Borough Council.
