Chief of Staff to the Chief of Operations (NYC or Newark)

TEAM & ROLE OVERVIEW
The Chief of Staff to the Chief of Operations (CoS) will be responsible for stewarding the strategic priorities of Uncommon's Chief of Operations (CO). The CO is charged with aligning and optimizing operations across schools, regions, and the Uncommon Home Office, and the CoS will be a key driver in the CO's achievement of that charge. The CoS will work closely with the CO and his team to drive and implement strategy, in addition to the Chiefs of Staff for the Chief Schools Officers (Uncommon's instructional leaders) and various Home Office team leaders.
We are seeking an experienced leader who can drive and execute strategy through strong vision-setting, communication, planning, and relationship-building skills. The Chief of Staff must be able to navigate a complex organizational context and work closely with a variety of high-level leaders to bring the Chief of Operations' priorities to life. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Clarify and refine the key short- and long-term priorities for the Chief of Operations and implement a concrete plan to execute on those priorities.
Partner with Senior Associate Director of Operations to support implementation of all cross-regional, school-based operations initiatives.
Partner with CoS to the Chief Schools Officers to create, implement, and manage communication protocols between the CO and the CSOs to ensure a consistent focus on student achievement.
Partner with CoS to the Chief Schools Officers to identify and drive joint operational/instructional priorities (e.g. Associate COO/Assistant Superintendent partnership; financial impact and prioritization of instructional initiatives).
Plan and facilitate monthly meetings between Chief of Operations and Chief Schools Officers to drive decision-making and move key initiatives forward.
Home Office Operations
Help define and implement organizational communication and decision-making structures Create a strategic plan to define and implement a consistent Home Office "Service Model to Schools."
Drive engagement and development of Home Office Team Leaders through monthly meetings and other initiatives.
Manage the implementation of all new technology systems across Uncommon Schools through indirect management of Project Manager.
Collaboration & Team Management
Work seamlessly with Chiefs of Staff to the Chief Schools Officers, members of the Executive Team, and other Home Office leaders.
Directly manage a team of 3-4 to execute on Chief of Operations priorities.
Serve as an exceptional role model as a leader and manager, investing deeply in supporting and developing team members and growing their capacity to learn, contribute and engage in the work of the team and organization.
Establish individual staff goals that contribute to organizational objectives.
Experience working in schools strongly preferred.
Ability to create, communicate, and effectively execute on a vision and strategic plan.
Strong prioritization skills amidst many competing, high-leverage, high-impact priorities.
Excellent relationship- and coalition-building skills and ability to communicate with and influence audiences at all levels of the organization (e.g. Chiefs of Staff, Executive Team, Home Office staff).
Ability to navigate complex organizational context and identify the most effective ways to move projects forward.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-change organization; flexible.
Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills; ability to demonstrate an appropriate sense of urgency.
5-8 years of substantive experience in school or non-profit operations and/or management.
Strong commitment to the organizational mission.
A bachelor's degree.
