Chief of Staff for the COO, Strategy Manager

We are seeking a top-tier strategy professional to join our team as the Chief of Staff to the COO / Strategy Manager. In this role, you will work closely with the COO and Executive Leadership to prioritize and drive critical initiatives that will shape the future direction of our high-growth marketing agency. Your strategy and operations experience will be invaluable as you support the management of divisional and corporate P&Ls, ensuring the financial and operational success of the agency.

As a trusted partner to the COO and Executive Leadership team, you will leverage your strategic mindset and analytical skills to identify growth opportunities, scale operations, and drive profitability. You will provide data-driven insights and recommendations to inform decision-making and support the effective management of our Web, Design, Paid Search, SEO, Photo/Video, and Social Media divisions among others. Collaborating with talented professionals across the organization, you will play a key role in advancing our mission of empowering dentists to build successful small businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead strategic initiatives: Identify and prioritize opportunities across the agency, structure comprehensive analyses, and develop innovative strategies to drive the organization's future direction and growth

  • Support P&L management: Partner with the COO and Executive Leadership to manage divisional and corporate P&Ls, ensuring financial and operational objectives are met

  • Provide strategic insights: Serve as a thought partner to leadership, delivering data-driven recommendations to inform strategic decision-making

  • Conduct financial analysis: Collaborate with the finance team by supporting select initiatives, building financial models, and leveraging data to forecast key metrics

  • Support annual strategic planning: Play a central role in company-wide strategic planning, assessing opportunities, building business cases, and creating roadmaps to advance priorities

  • Drive cross-functional alignment: Use cross-functional knowledge to identify issues, trends, and perspectives that influence the business, connecting the dots for key stakeholders

  • Influence stakeholders: Collaborate with and influence diverse stakeholders across the organization to achieve desired results

Core Competencies:

  • Strategic problem-solving: Ability to frame ambiguous problems, structure analyses, and synthesize insights to drive sound decision-making in complex situations

  • Financial modeling and analysis: Strong skills in building and optimizing financial models, conducting pricing analyses, and leveraging financial data to track and forecast key metrics

  • Strategic initiative leadership: Skilled at structuring complex problems, developing comprehensive strategies, and leading cross-functional teams to effectively execute multifaceted, fast-moving initiatives.

  • Business acumen and impact assessment: Deep understanding of core business drivers and ability to assess financial and operational impacts of decisions

  • Stakeholder engagement and alignment: Skill in engaging with and aligning diverse groups of stakeholders to drive results, even without direct authority

  • Executive communication and influence: Exceptional ability to communicate with impact and clarity, tailoring messages to resonate with audiences from C-suite to critical stakeholders internally and externally

  • Adaptability and ambiguity tolerance: Comfort with navigating uncertainty and adapting to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-7+ years of experience in management consulting, finance, strategy or a similar strategy/operations role

  • Experience or exposure to marketing functions and processes

  • Demonstrated success driving cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders

  • Strong problem structuring, data analysis, and modeling skills

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree a plus

Location

  • Preference for San Diego, Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Los Angeles, or San Francisco. Other locations considered on a candidate-by-candidate basis.

Travel

  • For candidates not located in San Diego, quarterly travel to the San Diego office is expected. Additional travel for partner, client or internal meetings on an as needed basis and will be discussed in the interview process
