VA structures its SES positions into pay bands. This is a Pay Band 3 position. The salary for this position is capped at $174,500. Exceptions to the cap of the range may be considered in certain circumstances.

Chief of Staff, Office of Human Resources and Administration provides executive leadership, guidance, and direction of all the organizations throughout HR&A. This is a position of trust and serves as an advisor to the Assistant Secretary for HR&A and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary on the development and implementation of HR&A policies, programs, and the internal management and operations of HR&A.

The Chief of Staff, Office of Human Resources and Administration (HR&A) has responsibility for monitoring issues and for developing and presenting information and technical guidance to effect open communication, coordinate efforts, and the establishment of comprehensive practices and basic policies controlling Department-wide activities to improve the services that VA provides to Veterans and their families. The responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Provides leadership and advisory services that require sensitivity to and awareness of problems in specialized program areas and their relationship to overall program and management strategies.

Ensures human resources and administration matters are effectively and efficiently coordinated across the Department's Administrations, Staff Offices, and other Key Offices.

Explains and clarifies HR&A and departmental policies and procedures and independently resolve difficult issues.

Develops and recommends effective and efficient internal management controls and administrative practices to eliminate duplication and overlapping functions and to ensure maximum utilization of resources.

Participates in all aspects of department-wide activities involving organization and management matters concerning activities of the agency, including organization redesign.

To meet the minimum qualifications, applicant must possess the following technical and executive core qualifications. These qualifications would typically be gained through progressively responsible management or executive level assignments such as director of a regional office, medical facility or program manager. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
