Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Chief of Staff for the RBHS Office of Research. The Chief of Staff (COS) is a key member of the RBHS Office of Research and directs the administrative, financial, and operational activities of the research office. The Chief of Staff reports directly to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research (SVCAAR) and serves as an advisor to the SVCAAR. The COS is an integral member of the leadership team of the research mission. The Chief of Staff is a highly visible position responsible for the complex operations and initiatives of the research enterprise.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides management support to the SVCAAR to assure the seamless running of the RBHS Office of Research. Participates and is involved in organizing key constituent meetings to ensure appropriate and responsive followup and accountability.

  • Supports the SVCAAR fulfilling his/her responsibilities in leading the oversight and expansion of the research enterprise, including, but not limited to, aiding with strategic planning, developing major initiatives and events, evaluating infrastructure and financial needs, developing and disseminating communications to leadership and
    other stakeholders, performing program reviews, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Responsible for developing and managing the budget and expenses of the RBHS Office of Research and for special projects/initiatives of the office.

  • Supports the development of strategic and tactical approaches that achieves the strategic vision and execution of
    the research strategic plan, including operationalizing short- and long-term goals and evaluating outcomes. Prepares business plans, leads projects, and analyzes and presents information in support of the research strategy.

  • Aids in the coordination, development, and implementation of research programs, services, and infrastructure across the RBHS to facilitate multidisciplinary research and team science.

  • Builds an environment of teamwork and collaboration among various senior leadership engaged in research. Represents the SVCAAR and research enterprise to departments, the University, and external stakeholders.

  • Work collaboratively with the RBHS Office of Finance and Administration to review and assess grant funding across RBHS.

  • Develops and advises on administrative and research policies, procedures, and operational issues for the research enterprise. Leads change management to facilitate adoption of new initiatives, policies, and practices.

  • Provides oversight of research-related policies, procedures, and initiatives.

  • The Chief of Staff is a member of the Strategy Team for Academics and Research and the Biomedical Research Council. They will also participation on key internal working groups and committees across the RBHS and externally at local, regional, national, and international forums.

  • Supervise the Executive Assistant to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research.

  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers compliance standards as they appear in RBHSs Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

  • Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and
    procedures specific to their jobs.

  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and Rutgers regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they are changed or modified.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
