Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree

  • 5 years of experience providing similar responsibilities in higher education or other complex organizations.

  • Prior experience serving as a Chief of Staff, or similar role, for an executive leader in an academic or healthcare setting.

  • Familiarity with the University of Georgia and/or AU/UGA Medical Partnership.

  • Proven success in coordinating high impact or organizational projects in higher education institutions or another complex organization.

  • Proven track record in effectively managing a heavy workload, competing priorities, and tight deadlines.

  • Proven track record in effectively making decisions that represent the mission, values, and strategic plans in a higher education institution or complex organization.

  • Proven track record of translating strategic plans and/or goals into operational objectives and ensuring successful implementation.

  • Demonstrated experience communicating organizational goals and results to an audience of academic or executive leaders.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and compliance.

Position Summary

This senior administrator will report to the Founding Dean of the new UGA School of Medicine (SOM) and is responsible for ensuring that administrative and operational responsibilities are handled effectively and efficiently in the Dean's Office. The Chief of Staff promotes excellence in operations and effectiveness in communications, leads strategic School of Medicine initiatives, and carries out special projects and assignments as requested by the Dean. This is a key role, with the Chief of Staff being a trusted confidante of the Dean, who often acts on behalf of the Dean, leading discussions and providing strategic insights.

The Chief of Staff will represent the UGA SOM through effective internal and external communications with a high attention to accuracy and detail. The Chief of Staff will balance and influence multiple competing priorities and interests. The Chief of Staff will provide expertise and serve as an advisor and resource in support of the Dean and serve as a liaison to administrative units across UGA as well as to community partners. The Chief of Staff will utilize complex problem-solving skills and provide effective and trustworthy leadership to support the goals and objectives of the UGA SOM.

Provides general support for the Dean of the UGA SOM and Dean's Office operations.

Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities

Facilitates the flow of information through the Dean's Office to internal and external partners.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Provides robust preparation and analysis for the Dean in advance of meetings which includes preparation of white papers, briefings, presentation materials and other documents as needed.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Carries out special assignments and projects as assigned by the Dean, e.g., new UGA SOM building project.

Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities

Develops and implements systems, tools, and reporting mechanisms to manage and monitor the complex responsibilities, projects, and initiatives being managed by the Dean.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities

Represents the Dean to internal and external audiences as needed.
