Candidates who meet the following open-competitive qualifications may be provisionally appointed:
Either 1. a bachelor's degree and five years of professional experience providing treatment in a mental health setting (including a psychiatric hospital, unit, or ward; an inpatient treatment facility; a community based clinic; or a residential setting that serves patients whose primary diagnosis is mental illness), an alcohol or substance abuse treatment facility, or criminal justice setting where inmate/patients have mental health issues (including correctional services, juvenile justice, or parole). Two of the five years must have included the clinical supervision* of staff;
Or 2. a master's degree and four years of professional experience providing treatment in a mental health setting (including a psychiatric hospital, unit, or ward; an inpatient treatment facility; a community based clinic; or a residential setting that serves patients whose primary diagnosis is mental illness), an alcohol or substance abuse treatment facility, or criminal justice setting where inmate/patients have mental health issues (including correctional services, juvenile justice, or parole). Duties Description As a Chief of Forensic Unit 1, you would be responsible for planning, supervising, and evaluating the implementation and provision of mental health services to a diverse population in New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision facilities. You would have program and administrative responsibility for an interdisciplinary treatment team providing a comprehensive program tailored to meet the individual needs of patients. You would be responsible for negotiating and coordinating your unit's activities with those of both Central New York Psychiatric Center and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee's employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees.
