Under the general direction of the Chief Physician Executive of UT Health RGV, the Chief Medical Officer is responsible for providing clinical strategic direction and oversight for UT Health RGV. Oversees medical care delivery system, including development and implementation of strategies, programs, policies and procedures for all medical services. Collaborates with management, medical staff, and other constituents to recommend policy and strategic direction.
Oversees and assures that ambulatory infrastructure is on pace with current and future practice operations, including consistent performance targets and metrics, setting common standards of care, measuring and improving clinical outcomes, and disseminating best practices.
Lead executive responsible for Medical Service, Research, and Development Plan (MSDRP) bylaws/policies, ensures all MSDRP Guidelines, meetings, and procedures are followed in line with bylaws/policies.
Creates an organization focused on patient experience, safety, quality, and seamlessness of care.
Leads the Medical Executive Committee, in collaboration with applicable chairs.
Leads the process of medical director supervision, goal setting and assessment. Takes a lead role in the professional development of medical directors.
Works with the Chief Physician Executive of UT Health RGV and Assistant Vice President of Clinical Affairs to produce actionable, timely, and accurate clinical dashboards; ensures that performance information is received by applicable stakeholders, and actively used to drive performance improvement.
Leads conversations pushing accountability to clinical chairs and departments on physician productivity, administrative responsibilities (open notes) and financial sustainability
Integrates clinical administrative leadership plans into existing channels to identify, develop, and mentor future leaders across the enterprise.
Provides leadership in improving patient experience, provider engagement, quality and safety for UT Health RGV.
Works with key physician leaders to align physicians and clinical programs; integrates standards of care; and drives continuous improvement of quality.
Standardizes ambulatory operations, processes, policies, and procedures where desirable.
Assures that the clinical environment in which physicians' practice is supportive of the School of Medicine's academic missions in education and research.
Promotes adherence to all applicable regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements.
Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations.
Performs other job duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a license to practice medicine in the state of Texas. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Six (6) years of experience providing medical direction and supervision of teams.
