PRIMARY DUTY: Responsible for providing leadership and vision for all financial operations, financial management services, and reporting for both internal and external constituencies. Accountable for the administration of the endowment, financial analysis, and the implementation of financial policies and all accounting practices.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop, analyze, and maintain operating and capital budgets for the Foundation.

  • At the direction of the Executive Director, and in consultation with the Foundation's Finance Committee, oversee and manage all Foundation accounts including endowment funds, banking activities, investment portfolios, farm and governmental programs, oil and gas interests, and real estate.

  • Keep abreast of financial, tax, legal, and regulatory issues pertaining to not-for-profit organizations.

  • Attend Foundation board and serve as the staff liaison for the Finance and Governance Committees. Oversee the management and coordination of the financial reporting activities, including schedules and reports for presentation to the Executive Director, Foundation committees, donors, and university faculty and staff.

  • Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee the coordination and activities of the independent auditors and the preparation of the annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles including preparation of supporting documentation.

  • Assist development team working with donors on planned gift opportunities by preparing reports, schedules, and proposal gift calculations, including estate/trust expectancies.

  • Ensure the financial records of the Foundation's charitable gift annuities are in compliance with Internal Revenue Service's guidelines, and that tax filings are complete and accurate.

  • Assist outside firm in the preparation of the Foundation's tax return (990), as mandated by the Internal Revenue Service by compiling requested information. Ensure other regulatory filings are in compliance and complete.

  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard the financial assets of the Foundation, as well as anticipate financial problems.

  • Coordinate the maintenance of the Foundation's computer information system(s) with the Foundation's database administrator to ensure compliance.

  • Oversee the maintenance of equipment inventory and the depreciation of all fixed assets.

  • Oversee the Foundation's business insurance plan.

  • Assist development team in drafting gift agreements as needed. Review all Foundation contracts and other legal agreements before signature by the Executive Director.

  • Supervise the Foundation's accounting staff and coordinate the staff's position structures and individual duties.

  • Serve as the organization's Corporate Treasurer and participate as a member of the Foundation's Leadership Team, in consultation with other Foundation senior leadership regarding development of policy/procedure, strategic planning, and decision-making to encourage organizational stability and growth.

  • Review acceptance of all types of gifts and facilitate gift transfers, as a member of the Foundation's Gift Acceptance Committee.

  • Manage the scholarship budgeting process for private gift funds, prepare the annual scholarship budget for dissemination to the university, and maintain the scholarship budget, reflecting adjustments as necessary.

  • Maintain thorough and complete records of donor restrictions and administrative restrictions of gifts and funds, to ensure compliance with donor restrictions which includes disbursement from donor private gift funds.

  • Work on special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.        

Experience: Five years of experience in accounting related career

Skills: Ability to make multi-level decisions; superior interpersonal, organizational, communication skills; strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers; excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills; commitment to performance excellence/continuous improvement; ability to interact effectively with a variety of constituents internally and externally and represent the University in a variety of settings.WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with an hour lunch break. Professional and deadline-oriented environment in an office setting. This position will require additional hours during nights and weekends, as well as some travel. This position must purchase and maintain a cellular device and service that will be used for work functions. This position must be responsible for plan choices, calling areas, service features, terminations clauses, and paying for all charges associated with the cellular device and service.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises Advancement Services personnel.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
