Reports to: Global CEO

Primary accountability of the CFO is to work with the CEO to deliver the financial plan through excellence in financial strategy & stewardship. The CFO is responsible for all aspects of agency accounting, finance and real estate, including administrative, financial, and risk management operations for the agency. The CFO, together with the agency executive leadership team, will set the financial and operational strategy and develop metrics tied to the strategy. The CFO will develop and monitor a control system designed to protect company assets and report accurate financial results to our parent company, Omnicom. The CFO will have global experience with a professional services company, and a proven record of managing a high performing diversified portfolio of businesses, including divisions and stand-alone brands, with aggregate annual billings more than $200M. Must have the ability to consistently juggle business priorities to move things ahead efficiently and effectively in a professional services business.

About the Job

Principal areas of responsibility include:


  • Contribute to the overall long-term strategic agency plan through development of robust financial insight and actionable data, informed by a deep understanding of financial and business priorities

  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic financial plan across defined U.S. industries, global offices, divisions, and independent brands

  • Manage all aspects of budgeting including capital expenditure

  • Develop key performance indicators; monitoring and reporting of KPIs to support the company's strategic business plan

  • Play a key role in evolving the company's pricing structure to reflect the move to a stronger consultancy model

  • Identify and evaluate business growth opportunities based on analysis & understanding of overall business objectives and commercial priorities


  • Serve as key member of the agency executive leadership team, working collaboratively with business leadership

  • Participate in key agency decisions as a member of the executive leadership team

  • Proactive thinking and willingness to share opinions even when different from others

  • Lead our effort to streamline financial reporting and analysis to improve business outcomes, while implementing operational best practices

  • Lead the accounting and legal departments

  • Lead development and oversight of the company's transaction processing systems and shared service centers

  • Oversee management of talent realization/utilization process to ensure effective resource management

  • Negotiate acquisition and absorption / merger terms and supervise due diligence working closely with parent company

  • Negotiate key client agreements; work with financial team to get best terms to maximize agency profitability and cash position

Accounting and Finance

  • Lead a global team of professionals, including regional CFOs

  • Assist client leaders in accurately pricing, contracting, billing and reporting client activity

  • Work with shared service centers as required to ensure accurate and timely recordkeeping and administration of financial employee benefits including 401k, deferred compensation and bonus payment

  • Consistently forecast and report company performance in accordance with parent company deadlines

  • Oversee the confirmation and communication of financial information, including monthly financial results to agency CEO, agency executive team and parent company

  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts; enforcing client and vendor terms to maximize cash position

  • Takes initiative to learn quickly and act proactively to build a growth oriented culture, with particular emphasis on continuous improvement

Risk Management

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of business risk

  • Monitor all open legal issues impacting the company. Be aware of all legal issues affecting the industry

  • Identify, implement and monitor reliable control systems

  • Ensure that the company complies with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements

  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies

  • Promptly report risk issues to holding company management


Successful CFO will have a have a master's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience. Will also have 15+ years of progressive finance responsibility, and experience working for a major company or division of a large corporation. Should have experience in partnering with an executive team, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance and the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant qualifications.

Required Experience

  • Relevant professional services experience

  • International and public company experience

  • Good understanding of Sarbanes Oxley Act

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, client relationship and project management skills

  • Hyperion and PeopleSoft system experience preferred

  • Strong problem solving and creative skills with ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses

  • Experience leading major change projects and making infrastructure changes

Position Overview Responsibilities will include: Organizational Leadership * Inspire, motivate, and lead a Finance Team of 27 in the execution of all financial functions and manage, mentor, and coach six direct reports to ensure individual growth and success. * Identify opportunities for the finance team to continue to build strong relationships across the organization and establish the team as collaborative and focused on customer satisfaction. * Serve as a thought partner and member of the Executive Team in setting organizational vision and strategy. * Maintain and promote development of an environment in which finance and program are aligned, integrated and transparent with each other, and both are working to achieve mission success. Financial Management and Oversight * * * Maintain key banking and investment firm relationships, and develop new relationships as appropriate. * Identify existing and potential risks involving the company and ensure appropriate insurance coverage as well as compliance with insurance requirements of all contracts and regulations. * * Ensure that fiscal policies and procedures comply with requirements of funders and regulatory agencies. External Relationships * * * Establish and maintain relationships with CFOs from peer organizations and with relevant trade organizations such as Homeless Services United, Supportive Housing Network of New York, Human Services Council, etc. * Planning * Take a leadership role in strategic and financial planning for the organization, collaborating with other senior staff to develop both short-term and long-range strategic and financial goals and to assess the financial implication of new programs and ventures. * Work in partnership with the Chief Operating Officer and SVP Program Development to explore and secure new sources of public and private funding. * Lead and implement the annual budgeting and planning process, including interim updates and interpretation of financial results against planned performance. Reporting Relationships The Chief Financial Officer reports to the President and CEO, oversees a team of 27 through six direct reports, and is a key member of the seven-person Executive Team.
