Position Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer is accountable for the financial, administrative, and risk management operations of the company and will work in cooperation with the other members of the Senior Management Team to achieve acceptable returns for our investors and successful outcomes for our employees and other constituents. The CFO will also take a key role in analyzing, planning and implementing business acquisitions and significant capital expenditure to support the Companys growth plans. The position accomplishes this through a respectful, constructive, energetic and engaging style, guided by the vision, mission, and goal of the company. These responsibilities are to be performed while actively demonstrating the core values of the business.

Essential Duties and


  • Assist CEO and Management Team in developing and implementing the strategic plan and aligning/procuring resources to meet the goals and objectives of the company
  • Provide strategic leadership of the financial and administrative development of the company
  • Responsible for implementing financial policies and procedures, planning, analysis, budget and cash management
  • Generate accurate and timely internal financial reports and financial model to support planning, forecasting and budgeting
  • In coordination with the Senior Management Team develop and implement annual operating and capital budgets for all departments
  • Prepare and maintain multi-year forecast and perform analysis of budget/forecast variances and financial trends
  • Update annual projections with periodic financial forecasts
  • Responsible for advising CEO and Board of Directors on financial matters, as well as creating and maintaining integrity of internal and external reporting and fiscal controls
  • Evaluate capital investment opportunities and model expected outcomes to support decision-making
  • Work with the Board to evaluate business acquisition opportunities
  • Monitor financial policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure proper use and effectiveness
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Monitor financial covenants in debt agreements and maintain current lender relationships
  • Present financials to Board on a quarterly basis
  • Review and approve customer and vendor contracts
  • Responsible for authorization and approval of all lease agreements (buildings, equipment, etc.)
  • Recruit and retain staff and make hiring recommendations. Supervise, train and develop staff
  • Partner with other leaders in the business to develop and implement process improvements and to create more efficient accounting and administrative processes
  • Occasional travel as necessary to other locations


Bachelors degree required; MBA desired

At least fifteen (15) years of progressive experience

Manufacturing experience

Experience working with banks and should understand financial covenant restrictions

Must have strong ERP systems knowledge; MS Dynamics experience preferred

Financial modeling experience

Desire to be part of a team responsible for running a business

Experience working for a private equity portfolio company desired

VIEW JOBS 1/9/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-09T00:00 JOB SUMMARY Chief Financial Officer, Sutter Health Plan (CFO, SHP) has overall responsibility for developing and directing the financial activities of SH Health Plan in a manner that anticipates and supports current and future organization growth and objectives. This opportunity requires an innovative individual with a high degree of discretion and independent judgment who thrives in a varied and highly complex environment. The incumbent will provide key thought leadership in the Plan's strategic planning process and will be instrumental in the management and efficient implementation of key SH Health Plan projects. The CFO, SHP is part of the SHP senior team that will build and drive the strategy of the new health plan. The CFO, SHP will build, lead and manage SHP finance organization and, along with CEO and Board, be accountable for the overall financial well-being of SHP. S/he will be called on to make critical business judgments and recommendations with respect to the strategic evolution of the business driven by the changing times and health care landscape. Essential functions of the CFO, SHP will include but not limited to leading SH Health Plan financial operation (planning, risk management, contracting, budgeting, and auditing); overseeing and implementing the development and coordination of financial management systems necessary to achieve SH Health Plan's financial goals; overseeing and coordinating the Internal Audit and Operational Audit functions for SH Health Plan. MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION Master's Degree in Accounting, Economics or Business Administration or equivalent education and experience is required; FSA preferred. EXPERIENCE The successful candidate must have significant health care, actuarial, finance, management and leadership experience in a health plan. Preferably, the ideal candidate has previous experience in attaining the status of Accountable Care Organization (ACO) for the candidate's current and/or previous organizations. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS * 7 or more years managerial experience with supervisory responsibilities over multiple staff * Health Plan Finance experience including translation of actuarially valued ratings and assumptions into actionable pricing and accrual strategy * A thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles used in the preparation of financial statements as well as an understanding of general ledger and subsystems. * Strong analytical and problem solving skills to be able to support the various customers of the Sutter Health system * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Ability to partner with key stakeholders and work with all levels of staff, management, and board members to translate complex financial accounting issues to non-financial customers * Strong leadership skills to make appropriate contribution, give direction to issues, work groups and task forces * Ability to handle multiple priorities and to prioritize workload to consistently meeting established deadlines * Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and have a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement * Ability to process a large amount of information in a short period of the time and confidence to make informed decisions * Microsoft Office experience: * Excel – advanced * PowerPoint -- average * Word – average Sutter Health Sacramento CA
