Providence St. Joseph Health is calling for a Chief Executive of Physician Enterprise covering the California Region. The position will be located in Irvine, CA.

Provides vision, leadership and direction for medical groups and IPA's for Los Angeles & Orange County High Dessert as well as Medical Foundations and MSO services for all of California. Leads at scale with the objective of responsible stewardship to ensure fiscal prudence, establishing objectives, plans and policies, subject to approval by other executive stakeholders in the service area and Physician Enterprise leadership team.

In close collaboration with regional and local executive leadership, leads the administration, support infrastructure and development of the physician organization with business, physician and administrative models based on defined needs and plans relative to the service area. Ensures the effective development and efficient integration of strategies, priorities and initiatives to create an organized system of care that excels in quality, service, cost-effectiveness and affordability. This enables effective transition from acute-care based health management to the population health/prospective payment models. Provide leadership for strategic planning, clinical excellence, personnel management, fiscal accountability, operational effectiveness, and positive relationships with other departments, members of the medical staff, physician practices and all stakeholders within scope and span of control.

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as top executive for all medical groups in Puget Sound Service area. Incorporates an understanding and integration of PSJH Mission, vision, and values, while building and propagating a compelling vision.

  • In collaboration with Regional executives, shares responsibility for performance, including development and implementation of regional strategies, overall regional operations/cost efficiency efforts and optimal quality and satisfaction outcomes.

  • Align a strong/existing team and drive results.

  • Lead business development activities, partnering with institutes and building out IPA network.

  • Leads risk-bearing-based efforts in execution of PSJH physician medical group/ambulatory operation related strategic goals as defined by regional and local ministry goals and initiatives while recognizing the larger context of system challenges and needs. Report regularly to Physician Enterprise leadership and regional stakeholders on all aspects of medical group operations, including achievement of strategic and financial goals.

  • Establish and collaboratively lead systems and controls to ensure effective, efficient operations and information, support for recruitment and retention of physicians, staff, and conservation of physical and financial assets.

  • Work collaboratively with physicians and medical groups to develop mutually beneficial relationships to support local and/or regional initiatives, while assisting medical groups to adapt and embrace marketplace changes. Researches and develops compensation models and governance structures that align with PSJH values and operational needs. Develops, implements and monitors the administration of physician networks through committee infrastructure, staffing and employee engagement, budget, reporting mechanisms, and data output.

  • Ensure the delivery of compassionate and high quality patient care through continual assessment and management of programs, systems, processes, resources, and outcomes, establishing lines of authority for planning, management, operations and evaluation at every service level, within the context of PSJH strategic mission and vision, in order to meet the health needs of the population.

  • Ensures there is leadership to drive performance outcomes in quality, service, growth, finance, and people to create a superior experience for staff and patients.

  • Facilitate PSJH enterprise needs by interfacing with the system office and subsidiary entities of PSJH including; contracting, legal, human resources, compliance, information systems, improving performance, quality, and supply chain.

  • Work with local executive management teams and medical leadership of the ministries, serving as a resource to help reduce costs, enhance revenues, achieve effective utilization and quality goals and objectives, analyze and utilize information to develop and support management decisions.

  • Maintain current knowledge of legal and regulatory changes impacting such areas as health care reimbursement and accountable care organizational functions. Implement operational changes to maximize opportunities under these laws and regulations.

  • Collaborate and support all practice acquisitions and service contracts within guidelines established by PSJH stakeholders. Assure smooth transition of practices and implementation of systems and contracted services.

  • Develop and facilitate customer-focused business and operations strategies that respond to unique market factors such as size, demographics, competitors, employer characteristics and segmentation strategy, and targeted consumer expectations.

  • Collaborate with physicians, ministry executive management, health system executive management and vendors to identify physician practice needs and establish innovative and visionary solutions for improvement.

  • Ensure the achievement of financial targets while actively seeking revenue enhancement and/or cost-reduction strategies, balancing Mission and financial performance.

  • Champion efforts around customer satisfaction (physician, employee, community, and patient), developing, supporting, continuously measuring, and improving programs to generate and sustain high levels of satisfaction by all groups.

  • Create healthy communities and promote health improvement through proactively pursuing relationships and collaborating in efforts to improve the quality of life in the local community.

  • Identify opportunities, market needs, and industry trends while maintaining flexibility to proactively respond to shifting opportunities and threats, coordinating efforts within applicable local/regional strategy.

  • Develop, coach, and mentor executive team in a manner appropriate for individual and group needs in order to fulfill leadership roles and responsibilities while driving for results and fulfilling applicable entity and System succession strategies.

Qualifications:

Education, Training & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or related field

  • Seven to ten years of experience in a senior executive leadership role focused on the strategic management and operations of a large medical group organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with regional leaders, physicians and other key stakeholders and bring disparate groups together.

  • Strong business acumen

  • Working knowledge of healthcare reimbursement principles, information systems, cost management, quality management, culture of excellence and change management

  • Understand and be comfortable in a matrix structured environment

  • Inspirational and charismatic leadership style

  • Understand the needs and preference of population served and manage the efficiency and quality of services for a patient population across service area

  • Solid financial background gained through both operational and business planning experience
