The CEO of the North America Reinsurance business ("AXA XL Re NA") will be based in Stamford, Connecticut and will have responsibility for developing and delivering the strategy for North America in alignment with the strategy set for the Reinsurance Business within the AXA XL Division of the AXA Group. AXA XL NA is part of the Reinsurance business unit within the AXA XL Division of the AXA Group; its strategy will be set, and its operations will continue to be managed in the context of that broader organization.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • The CEO will report to the Chief Executive, Reinsurance and contribute to the longer-term strategy and vision of the Reinsurance business by playing an active role as member of its Leadership Team

  • The CEO will be responsible for operating an effective integrated reinsurance business, working in collaboration with colleagues across the Reinsurance business to bring products to market and seeking to ensure profitably.

  • Drive and manage all aspects of the AXA XL Re NA organization in accordance with the strategy of the Reinsurance BU while being accountable for the achievement of the P&L also by managing direct costs and expenses.

  • Submitting and presenting reports to the Board of XL Reinsurance America Inc and the AXA XL RE Underwriting Committee on a regular basis, including coverage of but not limited to: performance against plan, strategy updates, governance and the monitoring of new business initiatives.

  • Responsible for all drivers of profit and loss within AXA XL Re including revenue management on a gross and net level and expense management across business acquisition and operating expenses.

  • The CEO role plays a pivotal part in ensuring that responsibilities are clearly allocated to enable the effective running of the business. The individual must at all times be fit and proper and comply with regulatory prudential and conduct standards.

  • Responsible for overseeing the recruitment and retention of key staff. This includes providing leadership, guidance and motivation to maintain a productive, efficient and competent workforce and ensuring that the local functions are sufficiently resourced, and that appropriate governance is maintained through policies, procedures, reviews, audits and training.

  • Determine and delegate underwriting authority levels and guidelines within AXA XL Re NA underwriting community. Review and approve relevant underwriting decisions to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, legal requirements and organizational, business and strategic objectives.

  • Responsible for the Legal Entity business that will achieve sustained top quartile underwriting performance including innovation and new offerings, pricing, risk appetite and capital allocation within the product portfolio.

  • Responsible for the overall operations - executing on the Legal Entity business plans and the day-to-day operations, ensuring that execution is consistent with the agreed risk appetites, ensuring good governance and culture and the Board as well as Reinsurance leadership are kept appraised of performance and developments.

  • A robust knowledge of the reinsurance industry in the United States combined with in depth knowledge of reinsurance products offered by the Reinsurance BU to its clients.

  • Leadership skills with an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

  • Interpersonal Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication and influencing skills. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Desire and ability to work unsupervised with a keenness to get things done and take responsibility for actions.

  • The ability to work in an international, multicultural environment within financial services.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $420,000 to $450,000 USD.

AXA XL is a global Company. The salary range noted above is applicable only for US applicants. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
