High Country Line Construction, Inc, a subsidiary of MYR Group, is a full-service high voltage electrical contractor providing a full-range of capabilities related to transmission, distribution and substation construction.

The Chief Estimator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the estimating team for various electrical transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects. This includes administering operating budgets, staffing, work assignments, salary, and performance reviews. The Chief Estimator will also support and administer all department standards and procedures as well as responsible for the final review and approvals of estimate packages for accuracy and completeness. Projects will be nationwide, and travel is required.

Duties included but not limited to:

  • Reviews and evaluates requests for estimates

  • Prepares weekly bid calendar and ensures timely completion of estimates

  • Reviews estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy

  • Maintains and improves precision database

  • Develops and maintains cost data, including labor and equipment rates, installation methods and production rates

  • Develops and maintains estimating procedures and guidelines

  • Prepares reports as needed

  • Sets departmental budget and goals for the year

  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.

  • Attends bid meetings, office meetings and regional meetings as required

  • Preparation of complete labor and material cost estimates

  • Close coordination with project management

  • Preparation of bills of material and other information for use by purchasing

  • Determines constructability requirements via field walk-downs with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel

  • Compare various project documents for accuracy and consistency as well as data entry

  • Supervise and mentor junior to senior level estimators

  • Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable

Job Requirements


  • 15 years or more of experience estimating new construction, maintenance and retrofit projects for various projects within the electrical construction industry

  • Able to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals and other documents as they relate to the electrical work

  • Knowledgeable with a wide variety of electrical materials and planning methods of installation

  • Prior experience with budget and department planning

  • Proficient with vendor review and analysis process

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and Accubid estimating software

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills

  • Team player and able to work with various partners from start to finish
