Chief Engineer Mechanical Solutions
This is an exciting, high-impact position within Mechanical Solutions (MechS) to ensure technical excellence, lead the exploration and use of new technologies, maximize and expand our collective knowledge base and improve the level of support MechS provides to programs. The Chief Engineer shall represent the technical authority of MechS and establish our vision to support future business. Selected candidate will work across the enterprise gaining insight into and influencing Programs, SBUs and SSUs.
What You'll Do:
Serve as the primary point of contact for department-wide technical topics
Own awareness, support and closure of enterprise and industry-wide (GIDEPs) technical issues
Coordinate critical program (SRR, PDR, CDR) and independent review (IRT) support
Participate in PCRs, ERBs, SRBs, FRBs, MRBs, HARs, TARs, etcas appropriate
Define and maintain Mechanical Engineering's technology roadmap
Understand SBU technology needs
Maintain awareness of technology advancements and champion insertions, including:
Shape IRAD and Overhead investment
Expand utilization of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across the enterprise
Cultivate a connected, responsive, highly leveraged network of SMEs to solve the department's toughest technical problems and mitigate risks
Coordinate talent pipeline and development of technical experts within each of the mechanical engineering technology areas
Support new business pursuits
Perform and/or coordinate technical risk assessments
Shape solutions which maximize execution efficiency (Re-use, Make/Buy trades) and align with technology roadmap
Deploy methods to capture and share best practices and lessons learned
Differentiate Needs from Wants; drive to "good enough"
Lead MechS relationships with academia
Select and coordinate Ball-sponsored mechanical engineering senior design projects
Actively pursue technical partnerships to supplement/advance Ball's capabilities
Collaborate with Chief Engineers across Engineering to shape and execute the CE con-ops
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
What You'll Need:
BS degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field plus 16 or more years of relevant experience is required.
Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
Must have experience through the full product lifecycle from proposal through AI&T.
Proven exceptional mechanical engineering design and problem solving
Demonstrated commitment to the identification, development and deployment of process/product improvements
Ability to lead, influence and inspire
Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills
Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance. Currently active clearance preferred.
Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
Successful applicant for this position must be eligible to obtain a DoD clearance. A current DoD clearance is not required to be eligible for this position, however the successful applicant will be required to obtain a DoD clearance within a reasonable time after the offer is extended and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance. * US Citizenship is Required
