Primary Purpose of Position
The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth daily operation and guest appeal of the hotel. Leads Engineering team and direct them in assisting the guests and other staff in maintaining and repairing equipment and the building facilities. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), works closely with other department heads to ensure that operational goals are met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Directs the engineering staff on repairs including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems. Also oversees grounds crew to maintain outside landscaping.
Maintains and operates all equipment at optimum effectiveness, efficiency and safety ensuring regulatory compliance to facility regulations and safety standards.
Proactively advises management on current and potential engineering problems.
Consults blueprints or product manuals in order to fix boilers or air-conditioning motors.
Directs engineering personnel in formulating plans, designs, cost estimates, and specifications for repairs, construction, maintenance, and modernization programs.
Ensures that engineering staff receives proper training their respective job duties.
Manages maintenance workers; participates in hiring, training and mentoring staff and evaluating staff performance ensuring all employees are treated fairly and equitably.
Supervises annual operating budgets and manages controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals, compiles reports for on-going communications.
Conducts special investigations and studies to evaluate efficiency of engineering programs and processes.
Fire alarm and safety: Knows and abides by all Hotel safety and emergency procedures. Locates problem area, assist Fire Department and reset elevators.
Performs annual/semi-annual/quarterly Property Maintenance audits & participates in Perfect Room Inspection program.
Completes work orders on occasion.
Responds to guests in a friendly, timely and professional manner at all times.
Performs any further duties as required by the Owner.
4 years of experience (or 2 years with an Associate's degree) in the engineering and building maintenance or related professional area in a related field. (Safety principles, machine maintenance, and plumbing, boiler installation, operation and repair).
Minimum 2 year experience in a hotel Engineering Department.
Minimum 2 years supervisory experience with solid organizational, time-management and prioritization skills.
Minimum 1 year experience with budgeting and vendor negotiation.
Must be able to work with others and be professional and courteous to guests and fellow employees.
Technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing with extensive experience with installing and troubleshooting electrical switches, operating boilers, and repairing appliances.
Pool and hot tub maintenance experience.
Valid Colorado Driver's license and clear driving record required.
HotSOS experience preferred
Essential Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull material weighing up to 100 pounds.
Must be able to work under conditions requiring prolonged standing, lengthy walking, frequent bending, stretching, crawling through tight spaces and working up to roof top level.
Requires the ability to distinguish colors and symbols.
Requires frequent exposure to dust, dirt, water and chemicals.
Required to work outside in all weather conditions.
May be required to work evenings and weekends.
