CUMULUS MEDIA | Fort Walton Beach-Destin and Pensacola, FL is looking for a Chief Engineer.

Cumulus Media is looking for a Chief Engineer for Fort Walton Beach-Destin and Pensacola. The person we are looking for is someone who sees the future of radio and is excited about it. This is a critical position in our company.

The Chief Engineer manages the installation, maintenance and repair of studio, transmitting and ancillary equipment in order to maintain competitive signals in the market while complying with all FCC technical requirements. Includes responsibility for telecommunications, computer and networking systems. Remote accessible studios and transmitter sites for rapid troubleshooting

Our stations include: 99.5 WKSM 99ROCK, 96.5 WZNS Z96, 93.3 WNCV Coast 93.3, 105.5 WYZB NASH-FM, 1260/107.5 WFTW News Talk. The cluster of 5 stations reaches thousands of listeners daily.

CUMULUS | Pensacola currently features 5 stations in the Pensacola area and surrounding counties. Our stations include: 94.1 WMEZ-FM Soft Rock, 1370 WCOA-AM Talk Radio, 106.1-FM Magic our Urban Adult Contemporary Station, 102.7-FM WXBM plays Country music, 100.7 WJTQ JET is Classic Hits. The cluster of 5 stations reaches thousands of listeners on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees staff that maintains station operationthrough preventative and corrective maintenance

  • Establishes routinemaintenance procedures and schedules for all broadcast equipment

  • Oversees and assist with the installation and maintenance of control consoles, audio routers, recording equipment, microphones, digital audio systems, transmitters, antennas, controlsystems, remote equipment, etc.

  • Works withlocal management to coordinate remotebroadcasts as needed

  • Responsibilitiesinclude compliance with FCC rules and regulations, budgeting and CapEx

  • Travel to other markets or towers and stations may be required

  • 24/7 on call (notice how we saved this for last)

Job Requirements


  • Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills

  • Interact with management andstaff at all levels and ability to multi-task, delegate and handle pressures anddeadlines

  • Knowledge of all applicable FCCrules and regulations

  • Advanced experience withcluster-wide audio routing, digital audio delivery, EAS, Studio Telephoneand engineering IT systems

  • Computer literacy in applicablesoftware packages which may include (Microsoft OS and Office Suite, Automation Systems, Novel, Linux, etc.)

  • Ability to troubleshootbroadcast equipment to the component level

  • Ability to work independentlyto troubleshoot/repair high-power AM and FM transmitting facilities

  • IT skills including local area and wide area networking

  • Knowledge of electricalsystems, UPS, and standby generators and record keeping

  • Knowledge of telephone systemsand protocols including POTS, ISDN, T1, DSL and PRI circuits

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders is required

Education and Licensing:

  • Associates or technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field or equivalent level of experience

  • SBE CBRE Certification a plus

  • Must possess valid state driver's license and provide required proof of personal vehicle insurance
