The Compression Technologies & Services (CTS) Chief Engineer Serves as the technical leader within the Strategic Business Unit (SBU) responsible for internal and external technical interface, the development of the SBU technical organization, all elements of product technology selection, development and implementation to achieve business goals. Leads innovation and technology initiatives. Creates, maintains and drives strategic technology roadmaps linked to SBU growth strategies. Develops and maintains effective relationships with external technology partners (3rd party developers, strategic suppliers, laboratories, certification bodies and technical universities), and manages the intellectual property process and portfolio for the business. Provides oversight and mentors engineering team members across the SBU. Ensures product design integrity and reliability to meet the customer expectations for performance, reliability, durability, and safety within the customer environment.
REPORTING: This position typically will report directly to the CTS VP Engineering & Technology and may have dotted line reporting and/or PMP objectives tied to Engineering PGT Director(s). This position typically has no direct reports, but can have dotted line reporting of principal engineers within PGT's engineering organization.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Exhibit a depth and breadth of experience in product and industry knowledge.
Chair the Independent Design Review process to provide oversight to critical NPD initiatives.
Gain knowledge with intellectual property law and processes (i.e. patent law).
Experience working with external third parties in joint development efforts (development partners, universities, labs).
Develop a view of strategic vision that promotes both short and long-term growth and impact.
Experience with the practice of Robust Engineering, Modular Product Architecture and associated tools (requirements & functional analysis, DFEMA, DVP&R, etc.)
Developing and managing relationships with external technology partners (universities, certification bodies)
Participating and/or leading due diligence requirements for merger and acquisition opportunities
Working with senior leadership to develop and implement enterprise level innovation & technology strategies
Provide technical oversight and mentoring to engineering team members across the business
Participate with SLT to develop and implement engineering and technology strategy
Ability and opportunity to influence the direction of the organization through its' technology strategy (short / long term) and direction
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 15 years of industry experience required.
Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering preferred.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS or KNOWLEDGE:
Background in compression system technologies, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics strongly desired.
Knowledge of design & manufacturing principles, demonstrated experience with machined, cast, plastic and sheet metal components.
Strong project planning / management and organizational skills.
Self-starting with strong collaboration skills. Demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams spread across multiple geographical regions.
Experience with financial reporting and tracking systems, including basic cost accounting and project viability assessment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the business and able to lead by influence across the entire engineering organization.
Familiarity with Windchill and CAD systems, specifically Pro/Engineer, would be an advantage.
