Position Overview

Blue Owl recently supplemented its existing Credit, GP Strategic Capital and Real Estate investment platforms by expanding its management services in to retail, institutional reinsurance and specialty insurance advisory services. In addition, Blue Owl deepened its Real Estate Finance strategy by enhancing its capabilities as a real estate lender in commercial mortgage-backed securities. Blue Owl seeks a Principal-level associate in its Chicago office to be a member of the Blue Owl Compliance team. As a generalist, the individual is expected to liaise closely with individuals and teams across various Blue Owl business units and build strong working relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining the firm's policies and procedures.

  • Assist in preparing and delivering internal compliance training/education sessions, including facilitating cross training within the team.

  • Assist in preparing periodic compliance reporting for senior management as well as various Fund and Corporate Boards.

  • Conduct internal compliance reviews and provide support for responses to regulatory examinations.

  • Conduct reviews related to general conflict matters pertaining to firm investments made under Investment Company Act/Advisers Act and/or SEC exemptive reliefs

  • Draft and implement firm policies and procedures (corporate, adviser and BDC).

  • General compliance tasks as needed, including working with compliance team members that specialize in other functional areas.

  • Liaise with the Investment Compliance team's key client groups (trading, portfolio management etc). Research and respond to inquiries from same.

  • Manage the implementation of compliance-related projects, identify areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develop/implement corrective action plans for resolution of issues, and provide recommendations for avoiding similar issues in future.

  • Participate in due diligence and oversight of the firm's service providers.

  • Periodic review of marketing and related materials, including case studies and educational materials.

  • Provide real-time advice and guidance to Blue Owl's businesses on investment-related compliance matters, including but not limited to: trading, MNPI, information barriers, wall crossing, etc.

  • Synthesize and organize information, create team reference tools, and assist with enhancing and maintaining team recordkeeping practices.

  • Work with the broader Core Compliance team to streamline workflow and make recommendations on ways to increase efficiency while maintaining internal controls. Actively seek tools and technology to improve current operations and processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Must have at least 10+ years work experience in investment management, financial services, or industry-related compliance experience.

  • Experience in private markets, alternative investments, real assets, and/or private funds.

  • Working knowledge of Investment Company Act (preferably BDC regulations) and advisory functions is preferred, as is prior exposure to asset management compliance and its related rules and regulations.

  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to effectively drive solutions throughout the firm and present ideas in an effective, consensus driven manner. Escalate issues and advocate for solutions.

  • Ability to develop and foster strong interpersonal relationships and to maintain effective cross-functional business relationships throughout the firm.

  • Ability to work effectively with outside parties at all organizational levels

  • Detail oriented with the ability to assess and prioritize projects.
