As a successful candidate, you will:

The System SVP, Chief Communications Officer, reporting to the EVP and Chief Transformation Officer, is accountable for the strategic direction and implementation of all communications initiatives that support City of Hope's mission and vision, including City of Hope National Medical Center (COH NMC), City of Hope Medical Foundation (COH MF), City of Hope Orange County (COH OC), City of Hope, Atlanta, City of Hope, Chicago, City of Hope, Phoenix (collectively, COH CAP sites), the Beckman Research Institute (BRI), and TGen, referred to hereafter as COH. This role will provide system-level oversight for all internal and external communications.

The system leader defines COH communications strategy; develops effective and standardized approaches to strategic communications, both internally and externally; develops and executes comprehensive communications plans; and delivers internal and external messaging that enhances COH's brand and recognition nationally and in all markets, and enables organizational success, and employee engagement. As the leader responsible for developing City of Hope's communications strategy and plan, this role proactively engages in strategic conversations and builds relationships with key internal leaders and stakeholders and with external constituents across a broad spectrum of healthcare-related interest areas. This role also leads COH's Event and Visitor Services, delivering bespoke stakeholder experiences to engage external and internal COH audiences. This role is an active member of COH System Leadership and will sit as a member of the System Leadership Council.

Establish strategic direction for System Communications to ensure the implementation of comprehensive integrated programs that are consistent with the strategic direction of the organization.

Work closely with the COH NMC, COH MF, BRI, TGen, COH CAP sites to ensure that all communications programs are integrated.

Lead ongoing development of an integrated communications strategy based on COH's brand and positioning, defined organizational objectives, the market landscape, and a deep understanding of key internal and external audiences.

Work closely with the marketing and leadership team to develop and implement integrated campaigns that drive a consistent and distinct message with key audiences.

Strengthen COH culture and internal engagement across the system by working with system and entity senior management to align strategic priorities with timely and transparent communication.

Oversee the integrated communications strategies that build awareness of COH's distinctive academic, clinical and research programs with the appropriate stakeholders and constituencies.

Collaborate with system leaders to develop content to differentiate COH brand and reputation.

Oversee the execution of external-facing communications for organizational initiatives to ensure that campaigns reach key audiences and are aligned with organizational priorities.

Develop, maintain and execute effective crisis management strategies, including anticipation/planning, establishing appropriate response teams, partnering with Risk, Compliance and Legal, establishing notification and response systems, crafting messages for all critical stakeholders, and evaluating response effectiveness post-crisis.

Oversee the planning and execution of all employee-facing communication (internal and external) and partner with Transformation and other COH leaders on change management activities to enhance employee engagement and ensure alignment with the overall strategy.

Oversee the delivery of press releases, media strategies, thought leadership, and executive spokesperson visibility efforts to enrich brand efforts and expand reach with targeted audiences.

Consult with leadership on external perspectives and reactions that influence key business decisions, strategy development and business outcomes.

Identify new opportunities, challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with leadership team on internal and external communications, opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.

Lead the Visitor and Events Services team and provide strategic direction for a comprehensive program of strategic events, tours and immersive experiences for external and internal stakeholders across the system, designed to advance City of Hope's reputation, brand awareness, relationships and engagement.

Oversee full events portfolio including strategic sponsorships, external conferences and industry tradeshows, City of Hope custom events, and internal programming including All-Staffs and Leadership Meetings, and partner with the Philanthropy team on philanthropic events.

Spearhead the development of City of Hope's immersive and mobile event experience.

Oversee the redesign and modernization of the Duarte campus museum and elevate in-person and virtual tour programming across the system.

Attract, retain and develop quality professional and staff members, fostering high team engagement and providing leadership to further develop department vision.

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Fifteen (15) years relevant experience in relevant aspects of marketing, communications and government relations, including five years in the health care arena. Academic medical center experience preferred. Health System experience preferred.

  • Preferred: Master's degree preferred.

  • Recognized leader in health care marketing and communications arena preferred.
