Chief Clinical Officer

To lead, plan, develop, organize and motivate the activities of the clinical departments, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of high quality healthcare. To maintain an acute and strategic awareness of local, state and national issues related to the operation of a medical oncology/hematology/radiation practice.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

1.Provide coordination and general technical supervision over the Clinical Department and the delivery of care in a cost efficient manner:

a. Maintain a master schedule of employee work hours.

b. Approve the records each pay period; including on-call and weekend clinic time.

c. Maintain a record of hours worked within pay period for non-exempt employees.

d. Approve absences for Paid Time Off; copy Administration as received.

e. Ensure excellent communication among all staff. Meet regularly with all staff and departmental staff to facilitate communication between departments and administration: meet with all clinical areas: minutes from each meeting to be distributed to participants.

f. Provide for clinical staff education on a regular basis. Arrange internal and external presenters.

g. Identify, study and recommend solutions for clinical service problems.

h. Submit purchase requests to Group Administrator for approval or forwarding to Directors.

2.Provide for adequate staff:

a. Secure and train employees for positions approved by CEO and Board of Directors.

b. Forecast staff needed by physicians and all departments.

c. Review staffing schedule to improve staff utilization.

d. Propose short and long-term staffing patterns.

e. Conduct periodic and annual evaluation of staff members as prescribed by policy and recommend salary increases per institution guidelines.

f. Develop and conduct orientations for clinical staff members and leaders.

3.Maintain the quality of patient care:

a. Oversee review and / address complaints and communicate with patients who display any kind of dissatisfaction whether in the office, via phone or social media; provide or coordinate resolutions, suggestions and comments as they apply;

b. Review departmental supply requisition;

c. Responsible for emergency preparedness; ensures leadership access during any times of absence;

d. Stays abreast of changes in medical field that may require changes in equipment, personnel or training. Understand and provide a key role in any payer motivated or healthcare reform or improvement programs, accreditation or certifications that will improve operations or position the practice for greater success or longevity;

e. Develop operating policy / procedures for procedure manual.

f. Develop and maintain documentation standard and reviews documentation regularly, including that request by insurers and other outside sources.

g. Maintain responsibility for any office health and/or safety programs ensuring compliance with OSHA, medical waste regulations, health department requirements or insurance mandates;

h. Help formulate custom patient education material to this corporation.

4.Coordinate clinical services with other departments:

a. Attend weekly senior leadership meetings (KT) and provide a consistent and honest voice regarding operations; work to maximize team structure and minimize team weaknesses or dysfunctions, helping to create a cohesive, resilient, accountable and harmonious senior leadership team; management group meeting once a month;

b. Meet with CEO on all policy/personnel/practice or financial issues; maintains honest and open lines of communication with the CEO at all times, anticipating operational or personnel challenges that may reduce efficient and effective operations.

c. Meet with other department chiefs/managers/directors as needed.

5.Achieve and maintain excellent professional relationships and communication with all physicians, providers, leaders and staff. Provide input to other leaders when issues present that can affect their departments; demonstrate loyalty and an unwavering commitment to the good of the whole. Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement Program.

6.Serve as chief liaison between the clinical staff and medical staff:

a. Attend All Physician Meetings and Board of Directors meetings when requested by Physicians or CEO

b. Orchestrate and participate in the orientation of new physicians, as well orchestrate schedules and patient templates during a physician's plan of retirement or resignation.

7.Help develop strategic short and long-range plans involving new products, services and human resources. Coordinate in-services for new practices, drugs or products.

8.Collect data, prepare reports, answer correspondence, and compile statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.

9.Maintain continuing education standard, personally and departmentally.



  1. Safe guard confidential matters relating to the practice, its patients and employees.

  2. Maintain loyalty to employer in matters concerning its practice.

  3. Perform other projects and duties as related to the practice and clinical department objectives.

  4. Assist in determination of fiscal requirements and preparation of annual budgets.

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS;

1.Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing with Master's Degree in nursing or management preferred.

2.Licensed as an RN by the State of New York.

3 Minimum of five years of experience in a supervisory capacity;

4.CPR certified. If certified as an APP, ACLS certification is required.

5.Knowledge and experience in clinical research programs and regulatory policy
