Position Summary
The CAO is responsible for management of administrative operations of the Life Sciences Biology Group , which comprises of (1) Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) and (2) Computational & Systems Biology major. In addition, incumbent is responsible for both the financial aspects and administrative operations of (1) Stunt Ranch/La Kretz. Incumbent is to manage directly or through subordinates the funding component of the following Sales & Service Funds: (1) Biology Field Vehicles (61010), (2) Biology Isotope Analysis Service (61036), (3) EEB Seminars and Conferences (61060), and (4) Research Scuba Diver Certification (61105).

Qualifications
Excellent strategic planning, leadership, organizational and visionary skills to manage a research intensive, academic department in a major research university. (Required) Demonstrated, comprehensive knowledge of the various components of a large instruction/ research program. (Required) Interpersonal skills to diplomatically establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, researchers, students, administrators, and staff employees to create a harmonious and productive work environment. (Required) Demonstrated skill in all facets of financial analysis, planning, administration and evaluation of a multi-million dollar budget with multiple funding sources. (Required) Strong knowledge of campus Sponsored Research and Extramural Funds Management policies and practices as well as outside agency requirements. (Required) Demonstrated leadership ability to analyze complex issues and take action to expedite decisions. (Required) Ability to supervise and evaluate performance of administrative staff; with an emphasis on complex financial and sponsored research activities. (Required) Demonstrated ability to define, develop and initiate projects in finance and administration. (Required) Demonstrated ability to use spreadsheet and database software; working knowledge of strategic planning, financial management, facilities support, and administrative and instructional computing preferred. (Required) Extensive and deep skill in University financial planning, management, analysis and reporting. (Required) Strong skill in effectively communicating complex financial, organizational, and other information to multiple constituencies. (Required) Excellent interpersonal skills, political acumen and tact needed to work with a wide variety of people, including faculty members, research staff, students, professional staff members, chairpersons, senior university officials, and with external parties on campus as well as the public.
