Chicago New Arrivals Mission
The VISTA members housed at the Chicago Mayor's Office will:
Collaborate with Chicago Cares to promote volunteerism and civic engagement.
Manage volunteer engagement and capacity building, diversifying service opportunities.
Coordinate with civic partners for New Arrivals, building necessary infrastructure.
Develop a recruitment, retention, and recognition strategy with the City of Chicago and partners.
Form a Core Group of Volunteer Management Organizations, focusing on partnerships.
Establish a vetting and screening protocol for volunteers, ensuring safety.
Develop and implement a volunteer training program for effective assistance to asylum seekers.
Establish a robust volunteer coordination system, optimizing resources.
Create a sustainability plan for long-term volunteer engagement and support. Additionally, VISTA members supporting DFSS New Arrivals Sheltering Team will:
Conduct a needs assessment and gap analysis for asylum seekers' services.
Identify and leverage existing nonprofit partnerships for resource maximization.
Expand the network of service providers for comprehensive support.
