Element has an opportunity for a Chemistry Supervisor position at the Portland, OR food testing laboratory. The Chemistry Manager is accountable for coordinating client sample testing and turnaround times, review of sample testing data and interpretation of results, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, review and improvement of chemistry methods as well as coordinating chemistry staff workload and schedules.
Operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of HPLC, GC and ICP instrumentation for the analysis of food samples according to AOAC, AOCS, FDA and EPA methods
Review and interpretation of results with Quality Assurance, acting as a problem solver and technical expert in making recommendations on data acceptability
Work with Quality Assurance to determine acceptable corrective actions for any non-conformance issues occurring within the chemistry department
Develop and monitor chemistry section proficiency and training records
Develop and monitor chemistry section schedules based on workload and staffing
Review standard operating procedures for the chemistry section and develop new analytical methods based on client requests
Accountable to meet On Time Delivery and First Time Right goals within the chemistry department
Ensure work compliance to ISO 17025 requirements
Ensure compliance to all Element Material Technology quality standards
Willing to assist in other activities from time to time that may be requested by the Operations Manager to assist in the execution of Element Material Technology annual targets and budget
Skills / Qualifications
Have a degree in chemistry or related scientific discipline with at least 5 years of experience
Strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of HPLC, GC and ICP instrumentation
Have the ability to lead a team in a fast paced environment
Excellent math and computer software skills
