Job Summary

An entry level position responsible for performing accurate and precise analyses in a timely and cost-effective manner in support of corporate quality control and sales, regulatory and research activities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for analysis using the methods employed by Darling Analytical Laboratories.

  • Prepares stock solutions necessary for the performance of assigned procedures.

  • Conduct analyses as assigned after training and passing proficiencies

  • Use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to log in samples and record test results.

  • Follow directions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) accurately.

  • Report accurate results within the known tolerances for the methods and equipment being used.

  • Maintain ovens used in prep area verifying temperature accuracy for methods employed.

  • Follow all laboratory's health and safety rules.

  • Inventory consumables needed for work in assigned area. Report when items reach reorder point.

  • Assist with technical projects as directed by Laboratory Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager.

  • Any other duties assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor or Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemistry or a closely related field or 2 or more years of equivalent work experience in laboratory setting.

  • Lab or coursework experience with lab instrumentation such as gas chromatographs, atomic adsorption, UV-Vis spectrometers, and N-combustion units preferred.


  • A demonstrated ability to focus on and manage detailed methodologies in a multitasking environment.

  • A working knowledge of and experience using MS Excel and Word.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Frequently lift up to 20 lbs.

  • Occasionally push, pull, or lift 50 lbs.

Work Environment

  • Job functions will be carried out primarily in the laboratory.

VIEW JOBS 8/24/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-11-22T00:00 Job Title: Quality Control Technician Location: Fresh Commissary Revision Date: 10/17 General Function: The individual in this position will be involved with all aspects of Quality and Food Safety to ensure safe and wholesome food for our customers. This individual will work closely with production employees, supervisors and regulatory staff. This individual will work with staff and suppliers to ensure the food source is safe and wholesome. Primary Responsibilities and Duties: * Ensure the daily operation of the Q.C. and sanitation departments. * Review daily production paperwork and ensure it is complete prior to filing. * Assist R&D and Upper management with development of new products and procedures as is necessary. * Review daily samples of all production runs, ensuring proper containers, lids, dating and product are used. * Conduct counseling and reviews of staff as needed. * Assist with tours of the facility for inspections from various regulatory agencies. Follow-up with deviations discovered during inspections. * Monitor daily allergen sequences and assist production with sequence of production runs. * Ensure the monthly collection of Listeria swabs and quarterly testing of product for presence of Listeria. Secondary Responsibilities: * Ability to work under time constraints and be flexible in hours worked. * Performs pre-operational sanitation checks on equipment as needed. * Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required. Education/Experience Required to Perform Job: * Production experience preferred * Experience in Quality Control helpful Physical Requirements: * Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. * Must be able to be on feet (standing and walking) for 6-8 hours a day. * Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision. * Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Working Conditions: * The duties of this position are performed mostly in the production area which is wet and refrigerated (@38 degrees). * Adaptability for changes throughout daily operation. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * Must have the ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems and with several abstract and concrete variables. * Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to be bi-lingual in Spanish but not required. * Have the ability to work independently.
