Chemistry Lab Manager

Position Overview

ATL is seeking a dynamic Chemistry Lab Manager to join our team of dedicated professionals focused on client service and quality. The ideal candidate will be motivated, energetic, forward thinking, and possess outstanding leadership development and/or technical skills, organizational awareness, and a commitment to excellence.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Directs team to ensure delivery operational excellence, world class service and efficiency which results in consistently delivering exceptional service experiences for our clients.

  • Ensure that regulatory compliance, data integrity, quality control, and client standards are met including but not limited to auditing test procedures, documentation, QA meetings regarding laboratory investigations, client follow up and corrective action.

  • Builds, develops and manages laboratory team and oversees associates regarding staffing needs, project management, training, professional growth, associate behavior, corrective action, succession planning, work scheduling, compensation administration and payroll submission.

  • Provide support for analytical testing, method validations, note booking, data entry, instrument and method troubleshooting.

  • Perform other essential tasks, projects, and responsibilities as required


  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or other life science is required

  • Must be able to support the efforts of a young and enthusiastic work force while maintaining the necessary institutional controls to insure the highest quality output of data while consistently creating exceptional client experiences.

  • 2-4 years of Analytical Chemistry (HPLC, GC, wet chemistry, ICP a plus)

  • Experience in a FDA/ cGMP regulated environment is preferred.

  • Experience supervising or leading people and operations in an Analytical environment is required.

  • Previous experience in the consumer products, pharmaceuticals, personal care, and/or food and beverage industries is preferred.

  • Exceptional problem solving and conceptual thinking.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to summarize and prioritize highly complex projects and activities.

The purpose of this position is to: * Manage all activity of the Quality Assurance Department in Cincinnati * Administrator of the Quality Management System per the function as ISO Management Rep for Cincinnati in coordination with ISO Management Deputy Reps from Cincinnati and Dover plants. * Manages efficient work flow through the quality control laboratory. * Manage the activities of the quality control technicians. * Responsible for laboratory safety and waste management. * Maintain the analytical records required under Baerlocher Production USA's Quality Management System. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Direct the Quality Management of products manufactured or distributed from Cincinnati, OH by Baerlocher Production USA LLC. * Implement appropriate analytical and other test methods for the testing and release of products. * Direct the preparation of Certificate of Analysis for finished product. * Direct the SAP administration of the Quality Control transactions. * Oversee and train lab technicians & technologists. * Perform quality receipt, testing and release of raw materials as required for manufacturing. * Develops new methods of analysis for Baerlochers products. * Manage the testing for certified analyses of products and intermediates produced. * Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain analytical equipment in the lab, including calibrations. * Manage the maintaining of various files, e.g. MSDS files, COA files, safety files, quality files. * Communicates with customers when necessary * Drives continuous improvement in lab testing, equipment, and staffing. Profile This position is to manage all aspects of the Quality Group in Cincinnati and drive continuous improvement. The position is hands on and requires developing new lab procedures, scheduling daily tasks, HR for Quality Technicians, and certification of products. Candidate Qualifications Minimum Requirement: * Holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering * Has 10 years industrial experience in quality control and quality systems * Has 5 years' experience with supervisory/managerial responsibilities * Has good written and oral communication skills along with attention to detail Strongly desired: * Holds an advanced degree in Analytical Chemistry * Understands process chemistry and optimization from the lab to manufacturing scale * Experience or demonstrated capability to manage, supervise, and train laboratory personnel * Excellent knowledge of quality lab practices * Ability operate, trouble shoot, and maintain HPLC and other laboratory equipment in a quantitative method * Good organization, communication, and management skills. * Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft software, and ability to learn specialized technical software * Six Sigma and DOE experience * Experience with ISO and Quality Systems and Assurance programs Baerlocher Production Cincinnati OH
