Graduation from an accredited college oruniversity with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering,Biochemistry or Environmental Chemistry is required. (Must provide original college/university transcript at time of interview)*
Two (2) years of full-time work experience as aChemist is required.
Valid driver's license and proof of automobileinsurance is required. (Must provide proof at time of interview).
Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States' territories and Canada must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE). Original credentialing documents must be presented at time of interview.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of County, State, and Federal laws relative to environmentalprotection regulations. Skill in conducting qualitative and quantitative analytical chemicalanalysis; skill in interpreting statistical test data in conjunction withmaking correlation comparisons of test sample materials. Skill in calibrating and using various test instruments relative tochemical analyses; skill in using computer equipment for data entry functionsor access of environmental technical databases; skill in using hand tools formechanical tasks; skill in using scientific calculator for computingstatistical data; skill in calibrating and using various test instrumentsrelative to chemical analyses, i.e. Ion Chromatography and Atomic Absorption. Skill developing and the ability to conduct statistical QualityAssurance/Quality Control procedures. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with the public aswell as with internal agencies. Ability to prepare detailed analytical reports and quality assurancereports pertinent to equipment performance, material sampling, and materialanalysis. Ability to train new Chemists pertinent to the policies and procedureof the department as well as USEPA quality assurance requirements. This position may require moderate to extensive travel to workassignments throughout Cook County.
