DESCRIPTION

A professional laboratory position in the Organic Chemistry Section of the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory.

Performs chemical analyses for the detection and quantitation of contaminants in a variety of environmental matrices including water, soil, food samples and biological tissues using highly technical laboratory instrumentation. Operates laboratory data systems interfaced with analytical instrumentation. Exercises independent judgment in analyzing, calculating, interpreting and verifying data obtained from analyses

Prepares reagents, standards and controls used in the calibration and verification of analytical instrumentation and data.

Implements, develops, modifies and/or automates procedures for the determination of contaminants to improve the effectiveness of laboratory analyses.

Performs maintenance and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation as required or as needed to assure reliable analytical data.

Enters all analytical results into the laboratory information management system.

Provides assistance and training to other chemists and technicians within the Environmental Chemistry and Chemical Threat programs.

Reviews current literature and suggests improvements for instrumentation and/or analytical procedures.

Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.

Knowledge of procedures, techniques and equipment used in lab testing and analysis.

Knowledge of the method of data collection.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Bachelors in Chemistry or Biochemistry.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Florida Clinical or Public Health Technician license or eligible.
