You will serve as a CHEMIST (FUEL) in the NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO at the Point Loma Complex. You will be involved in quality assurance sampling and testing of petroleum used by DFSP Point Loma and its regional sites and authorized Fleet Forces. The nature of work is to perform clearly defined chemical analysis of petroleum products.
You will perform quality assurance sampling and testing of petroleum products used by Fleet Logistics Center San Diego at Defense Fuel Support Point (DFSP) Point Loma, its regional over the horizon sites, and authorized Fleet Forces components.
You will perform clearly defined chemical analysis of petroleum products used by the Navy and Marine Corps and assist the Supervisory Chemist in meeting mission requirements.
You will ensure quality assurance standards are on specification and used to determine their suitability for Department of Defense use.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-07) or equivalent pay band, or equivalent private sector experience in the same or similar work at a level of difficulty and responsibility that has equipped me with the necessary knowledge, skills or abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position at the GS-09 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing professional principles, concepts, practices and methodologies of chemistry, chemical engineering or petroleum engineering to perform routine and limited chemical analyses and tests.
This work experience would have involved following established methods and procedures, or detailed instructions; using some judgment in applying basic principles and procedures, and would have required a good general working knowledge of the principles and the theories of the principles and the theories of chemistry. Specific duties may include the following: 1) Document the effects of the changes on the behavior of the petroleum products in use or storage; 2) Utilize statistical analysis to determine the validity of test methods through the analysis of test results; 3) Comply with Federal environmental regulations applicable to fuels and commercial fuel applications.
You may also qualify using education if you have successfully completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Such education must provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess a degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
