Summary
Performs chemical analysis of water, wastewater, or industrial waste.
Essential Functions
Maintain and operate computer controlled analytical instrumentation;
Perform tests on water, wastewater, sludge, and soil;
Perform various chemical and bacterial analyses and interpret the results;
Perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments;
Prepare reports and maintain all necessary records;
Monitor all quality control procedures to assure accuracy of analytical data;
Evaluate contaminants in wastewater treatment plant effluent;
Train and supervise lab technicians;
Monitor lab safety and enforce laboratory chemical hygiene plan to ensure personnel follow safe lab practices;
Develop new test methods and adapt EPA methods for laboratory use;
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion of a bachelor degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related field with an additional one to three years of laboratory experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following;.
Valid Current Driver's License
Critical Infrastructure:This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components.This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Principles, methods, and techniques of chemical analysis;
Proper use and careof laboratory equipment;
Laboratory safety;
Procedures for validation and statistical analysis of data;
Theory of chemical instrumentation;
Procedures involving security of samples.
Ability to:
Follow laboratory testing procedures and standards, work with precision high-tech instruments;
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation;
Communicate effectively with others;
Perform complex math equations involved with quality control statistics;
Interpret and implement EPA methods written with legal and scientific language;
Operate and maintain computer controlled high-tech chemical analytical instruments;
Deal effectively with the public.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Occasionally climb ladders and stairs.
Frequently walk, stand, bend, and occasionally kneel.
Push and pull objects.
Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
Continuously rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing.
Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.
Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement.
Perform intricate finger movements in order to use micron injectors.
