ChampionX has an immediate need for a highly motivated Chemist in our RD&E team located in Sugar Land, TX. The qualified candidate will be part of a rotational program designed to develop expertise in oilfield chemicals to support high impact innovation projects. During the three rotations (each for 4-months), the Chemist will learn and apply scientific methods to support the development of novel solutions with improved sustainability and increased efficiency in energy production. After completing the rotations, the individual will move into a longer-term role as part of the Chemical Technologies RD&E team.

What You Will Do:

  • Evaluate physical properties such as viscosity, density, pH, thermal stability, chemical compatibility, and other analytical testing.

  • Formulate and carry out products performance testing.

  • Operate special laboratory equipment at high pressure and high temperature.

  • Provide direct laboratory support to senior researchers for a variety of laboratory operations.

  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation.

  • Manage low complexity projects once established.

  • Manage data in SAP, maintain laboratory databases and generate reports.

  • Adopt and maintain our safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related fields with up to three years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in a laboratory environment and ability to set up and operate special equipment following manufacturer's instructions.

  • Exhibit high attention to detail and quality service.

  • Capable of lifting 30 pounds

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Immigration Sponsorship is not available for this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with product formulation

  • Experience with high pressure, high temperature equipment.

  • Organic synthesis experience is a plus.

  • Strong problem solving-skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
