Job Summary

Reports to Quality Assurance Supervisor or designate. Under minimal supervision, assists with the coordination of product design/development planning and design transfer activities. Coordinates design and development verification/validation activities and assists in the generation and review of associated protocols. Evaluates impact of process improvement efforts and manufacturing deviations on process validations and product design. Acts as a team leader in directing others to achieve above goals. Prepares written technical reports and proposals for management review. Responsible for knowing silicone manufacturing processes and related formulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Technical Writing

  • Sample testing

  • Assists with the coordination of product design and development planning

  • May coordinates design transfer activities (feasibility reviews, design reviews, post production product reviews)

  • Assists with Design and Development verification and validation activities

  • Evaluates impact of process improvement efforts and manufacturing deviations on process validations and product design

  • Generates and/or reviews Validation Master Plans and associated validation protocols

  • Generates and/or reviews Installation, Operation, and Process Qualification documentation for manufacturing and testing instrumentation

  • Interfaces with various NuSil departments

  • Works closely with Research and Development, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance Testing and Engineering departments to implement and review process design

  • Must be regular and punctual in attendance

  • Responsible for maintaining quality within the scope of the job description.

  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - Train and oversee daily duties of design transfer and technical writing staff

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Masters Degree in Chemistry, Material Sciences, or Chemical Engineering with 0-3 years experience, OR Bachelors degree with 2-5 years experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Dependable attendance desirable.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to maintain a pleasant and professional manner with coworkers, customers and visitors. The employee must be able to effectively delegate, make decisions on imperfect information and to communicate and give and receive complex oral and/or written instructions. Must have the ability to make upper management decisions. Work with high level of efficiency and confidentiality. In addition, the employee must be able to determine and carry out appropriate actions addressing employee disciplinary issues.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)

Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.

Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.

A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.

Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
