Overview:
Job responsibilities to include working as part of a team of engineers, chemists, and technicians providing support to NASA while maintaining a strong consciousness about safety. This position will directly support International Space Station (ISS) as well as all future exploration missions relating to Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS). The successful candidate will be able to provide chemical and scientific support and insight into the development of fluid systems and mechanical assemblies which support the research and development of water recovery efforts for ISS and advanced exploration initiatives. They will also will be able to provide all around hands on analytical support in the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems wet chemistry laboratory. The candidate should also be able to support writing standard operating procedures, method development, as well as interpretation and reporting of test results. This position encompasses duties and responsibilities for maintaining life support systems aboard the ISS, discovering methodologies for making existing ISS ECLSS more efficient, and for troubleshooting and correcting anomalous phenomena aboard the ISS.
Responsibilities
A degree in Chemistry is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 4 years of experience; Masters with at least 8 years of experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience.

Specific experience with Total Organic/ Inorganic Carbon analyzer, Ion Chromatography GC/Mass Spectroscopy
Knowledge of ground-up type method development
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%).
Physical Requirements:
Sitting for extended periods at a desk to develop tools, write reports, and perform engineering tasks (65%). Sitting for extended periods in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (20%). Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
