Pay will be determined based on level of selected individual.

Chemist 1 (Range 14) salary: $1,999.50

Chemist 2 (Range 16) salary: $2,296.50

Chemist 3 (Range 18) salary: $2,646.00

What you will be doing:

Join the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) as a key contributor to air quality monitoring and public health protection. This flexibly staffed position will serve as the primary laboratory analyst for the Air Monitoring & Quality Assurance (AMQA) program in Fairbanks, Alaska. This role will support the operation of Alaska's statewide ambient air quality monitoring network. Your work will inform regulatory decisions, ensure compliance with State and Federal regulation, and safeguard Alaskans from harmful pollutants.

Duties will include:

  • Operation & maintenance of gravimetric laboratory equipment

  • Implementation of QA/QC procedures

  • Analysis of particulate matter samples (PM2.5/PM10) collected from network sites

  • Data processing, analysis, and validation.

  • Adherence to State and Federal air quality standards.

  • Occasional fieldwork & air pollutant instrument operation (use of analyzers for CO, SO2, NOx, O3, chemical speciation, and PM

  • Data Management: Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and tools of data management, such as modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data archiving, data disposal, and data standardization processes.
  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:
