This position serves as a chemical synthesis technician in our pilot plant chemical manufacturing area. Responsible for safely handling large quantities of chemicals during chemical manufacturing. This position does bulk reagent preparation and control per established manufacturing procedures. Products may include solutions, powders, and dyes.
Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM. Overtime is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manufacture bulk reagents using existing formularies. Perform production controls and adjust bulk reagents to meet product specifications and ensure customer quality. Release conforming materials to processing, packaging or stock in a timely manner.
Participate in the scheduling of the manufacturing area.
Utilizing continuous improvements methods to work with support teams to implement new changes in chemical manufacturing process or procedures.
Operate and maintain all manufacturing equipment in a safe and productive manner per company safety policy. Responsible for ordering replacement parts for the equipment utilizing I-Buy system.
Coordinate work with Maintenance and Engineering groups to define needed machinery maintenance, spare parts, PM tasks, etc. Ensure that the proper documentation and maintenance systems are in place to keep equipment in working order.
Keep accurate production and inventory records. Perform computer data entry and work order transactions (LOTS, scrap, Oracle, etc.).
Coordinate with buyer to ensure proper raw material inventory and ordering (Kanban and re-order point).
Assist Analytical Services with troubleshooting and problem solving of products and procedures.

1 year of organic chemistry with lab is preferred.
Analytical chemistry/Quantitative Analysis with lab is preferred
5 or more years' experience in a chemical production, process, or technician role OR BA/BS degree with 1 or more years' experience in a chemical production, process, or technician role.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and direct others professionally and clearly.
Ability to train and mentor technicians
Demonstrated ability to use analytical laboratory technique (use of volumetric glassware to make standard solutions, perform dilutions, and perform titrations)
Ability to gather and analyze data
Mechanical ability preferred. Ability to use hand tools.
Familiar with metric system and knowledge of algebra
Computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet required. Experience using Access preferred.
Ability to use several types of chemical manufacturing machinery, e.g. laboratory instrumentation, jacketed reactors, filtration systems, pilot plant scale synthesis.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, oils, extreme temperatures and work space restrictions. Will be working in a pilot scale chemical synthesis environment.
Frequent/daily exposure to large quantities/volumes of hazardous and nonhazardous chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
Employees will be required to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include: eye, hearing and respiratory protection, protective smock, steel toe shoes, gloves, hard hats, or face shields. Contact lenses ARE NOT allowed in chemical synthesis area.
