3M is seeking a Chemical Product Development Specialist for the Personal Safety Division (PSD) Respiratory, Welding and Protective Apparel (RWPA) Laboratory located in Maplewood, MN. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.
The person hired for the position of Product Development Specialist will be capable of developing a deep understanding of the sorbents used for respiratory protection, included impregnation chemistry and gas removal mechanisms. In addition to developing into a global expert and resource, the successful candidate must be capable of driving the commercialization of novel sorbents of interest and sorbent containing products such as respiratory protection canisters and cartridges.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Developing PSD's next generation of respiratory protection products.
Identifying, initiating and leading projects that will drive growth for PSD.
Hands on laboratory work including chemical treatment of sorbents, respiratory cartridge construction and performance characterization testing.
Capable of developing into global resource for sorbent expertise supporting customer enquiries, product development and manufacturing operations.
Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum five (5) years of research and development experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related discipline from an accredited institution
Minimum seven (7) years of research and development experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Ability to navigate and execute multiple projects of significant Divisional impact
Strong communication skills (oral, written and presentation), excellent interpersonal and influencing abilities
Demonstrated ability to work with/lead both laboratory and manufacturing colleagues on global teams to ensure successful commercialization of developed products
Proven track record of innovative problem-solving and/or product design
Strong self-motivation and time management ability to work on multiple programs of significance to the Division
Microsoft Office proficient, Mintab and MATLAB a plus
Location: Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
