Olin Winchester, LLC ("Winchester"), considered one of the world's leading ammunition manufacturers, is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer to work at the US Army's premier small caliber manufacturing facility located in Independence, MO. In collaboration, the US Army and Winchester are developing a first of its kind tracer cartridge to better serve and protect America's warfighter in current and future global conflicts.

Focus: The Chemical Process Engineer will work with the industry's leading engineering and development teams in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities to develop real world solutions for tracer cartridges including the US Army's newly developed weapons platforms. Chemical Process Engineer Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop R&D technologies for tracer ammunition used by the U.S. Army.

  • Modify existing production assets and create new tooling/processing to enhance efficiency, reliability, and performance of the tracer cartridge.

  • Assess equipment and processes for potential safety hazards, implement appropriate safety protocols, and conduct or support explosives and tracer performance testing as necessary.

  • Develop comprehensive specifications for vendors to follow throughout the quotation process, equipment design phase, and manufacturing build of new pyrotechnic related equipment.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional production teams, customers, suppliers, contractors, engineers and designers to identify, rank, and advance the creation of tracer ammunition technology.

  • Support the progression from initial R&D lab experiments to achieving full rate manufacturing capabilities.

Chemical Process Engineer Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree* in Chemical Engineering; with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (documentation required). Cumulative GPA on current institution transcript will be used in transfer college situations. Degree must be completed by end of August 2024.

  • Candidates with 2 years of recent/relevant work experience preferred.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage own time effectively, and maintain control over all current projects/responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, work safely, manage high-volume workload, and have willingness to be collaborative and support other efforts.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.

  • Experience in ammunition manufacturing or shooting sports preferred.

  • Microsoft Suite of Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio), Minitab, and CAD experience preferred

Location-Specific Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.

  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.

  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. The US Government does not allow non-US citizens on-site at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. Therefore, to be considered in the hiring process, the candidate must be a US citizen.
