DuPont's Safety & Construction is recruiting for Chemical Operator(s) to join its dynamic team located at its manufacturing site in Buffalo, NY. Yerkes Buffalo is the North American manufacturing home of Corian solid surface products, introduced in 1968 and the founding manufacturing location for Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) films, introduced in 1961. As a Chemical Operator, you will:

  • Monitor and operate complex chemical processes, equipment and facilities

  • Read, interpret and follow instructions including standard operating conditions and procedures

  • Collect and analyze samples and verifying product meets requirements

  • Obtaining, loading, unloading, transporting, storing and staging of materials

  • Operate mobile equipment

  • Follow site safety procedures to prepare and operate equipment

Must pass Drug Screen, Background check, and pre-employment Physical.

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent is required

  • Minimum 1-2 years of industrial experience including manufacturing, warehousing, construction, or other equivalent technical trade. Military experience is also desirable.

  • A valid US driver's license is required

  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule including holidays and weekends

  • Willing and able to work overtime, sometimes on short notice

  • Willing and able to wear appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) including a respirator and full chemical resistant suit with supplied breathing air

  • Willing and able to lift and move objects that weigh up to 55 lbs (25 kg)

  • Willing and able to climb multiple flights of stairs, multiple times per day

  • Willing and able to work on elevated surfaces climbing open vertical ladders

  • Willing and able to be trained to work in confined spaces

  • Demonstrated proficiency using computers and interfacing with display screens

  • This is a bargaining union opportunity; those selected may be expected to join the local union

  • This role is located in Buffalo, NY and may require less than 5% of travel

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States; No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position

Skills desirable but not mandatory include:

  • An advanced degree beyond High School (Associate, Bachelor, etc.) from an accredited program

  • Prior work experience in a chemical plant

  • Experience doing lockouts i.e. isolating hazardous energy sources

  • Experience operating mobile equipment i.e. fork truck

  • Prior experience wearing a respirator

  • Prior experience wearing a chemical resistant suit

  • Experience using computer software including Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Assist in the training of new hires. Primary Functions Meet standard rates for various products. Maintain and improve scrap rate. If not maintaining a standard rate,able to identify causes with engineering and or supervisor. Complete all necessary paperwork & documentation in an accurate, timely fashion.Set up and operation of manufacturing machines. Record machine set-ups every time a new setting or change is made. Understand equipment and perform trouble shooting when required.Become knowledgeable and follow the organizations Quality Management System. Understand and maintain a 5-S work area.Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed. Follow all lock out tag out procedures.Understand all critical machine & manufactured product features to insure product quality is maintained. Education A High School Diploma or GED is required.
