The Role

The Chemical Engineering Co-op will focus on evaluating new manufacturing technologies. The position primarily involves running experiments and analyzing data to optimize the process to meet certain design objectives. The Co-op will gain valuable experience in membrane manufacturing process as well as novel waste water treatment processes.

In this role you will

  • Conduct research under direction of a more senior engineer to optimize process. - Provide accurate timeline requirements for project tasks and clearly present project details.- Communicate progress including recommendations for improvement on a frequent basis.- Use critical thinking and problem solving, constantly striving to improve the product development process- Adapt to project scope changes, analyze and resolve problems and making quick, responsible decisions with limited information.

Co-op will work simultaneously on two projects:1. Evaluate the efficacy of a new waste water treatment process using Vortex Diode Technology (see attached report). Experiments will look at effect of process variables on removal of contaminants from process waste water.

Evaluate efficacy of technology to various chemical contaminants. 2. If the technology is successful in reducing TOC of the effluent streams from the new immersion cast production machine to be installed in Billerica, it will make it easier to get permits to discharge the waste water and potentially reduce the costs of waste water treatment equipment.3. Optimize process for a novel method of drying microfiltration and nanofiltration membranes.

  • Excellent laboratory skills with safety focus- Detail-oriented, able to solve complex problems using methodical approach and rational thinking- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey information to all organizational levels both verbally and in writing- Willingness to learn and adapt quickly in a fast paced working environment- Ability to work with intra and inter departmental functional areas fostering a collaborative teamwork environment is necessary.- Experience with statistical packages such as Minitab for data analysis and design of experiments is desirable

  • Appropriate applicant should be in the 3rd yr of pursuing a B.S. in Chemical Engineer or an M.S. in Chemical Engineering.- Should have familiarity with chemical engineering unit operations- Applicant should be mechanically competent and willing to work extensively with hands.- Familiarity with engineering drawings, design of experiments and statistics are a plus.

You lead the Cambridge Technology Engineering Labs for product and complex application testing. You are a strong writer of technical papers for publications in the laser and photonics industry, and enjoy presenting at conferences to promote Cambridge Technology products and their applications You work closely with external customers, partners, and internally with our Sales, Marketing and Engineering to drive our future value propositions that drive our future product lines. The role is located in Bedford, MA. Primary Responsibilities: PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Leads the central application team, and works with Field Application Engineers to perform the following responsibilities * Collaborates with sales and marketing organizations to identify key customers to help us verify new products are being developed in accordance to market requirements. * Collaborates closely with the Field Application Engineers to developing new customer applications. * Collects application market intelligence. Works closely new product development teams to fully understand all key features and provides suggestions for their improvement in customer applications. * Leads Cambridge Technology product testing (inclusive of galvo, polygon, controller and laser technology) in the applications engineering lab to develop deeper understanding of performance limitations in preparation for customer evaluations. * Responds promptly to all customer questions, comments and concerns. Has the ability to provide practical solutions for challenging issues. * Drives the evaluation of issues with Cambridge Technology products in customer applications and works with engineering and others to correct and improve product features. * Organizes and supports on-site customer visits to introduce, setup and train on new product evaluations. * Develops customer documentation, including application notes/reports, user manuals, data sheets and performance charts. * Writes technical papers to submit to conferences and publications in the laser and photonics industry, and presents at shows and conferences to promote Cambridge Technology products and their applications. Minimum Qualifications: * B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology or Optical Engineering or Physics is required. Higher degree (M.S. or Ph.D) is preferred. * Experience of managing a team of technical professionals is required. A strong, authentic team builder. * Up to 5 years' experience in design engineering, applications engineering, high technology sales support, or field service a plus. * Experience with optics and lasers is a plus. Passionate about laser applications. * Experience with motion control systems, galvos, or galvo-based scan heads a plus * Knowledge of and experience in developing, using, or troubleshooting servo control systems a plus. * Strong general software skills, with some degree of programming knowledge. * Ability to write technical papers, reports, business correspondences, and procedure manuals. * Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and groups of managers, engineers, customers or the general public. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Must be a US resident. * Must possess a valid passport and be able to travel internationally, if required.
